  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Who's the best running back?

Who is the greatest NFL running back ever?

The best back I've ever 'seen' myself is Barry. He could do anything with the ball. Would be the leading rusher if he didn't end his career early.

LT will definitely be up there once its all said and done

The leading ball carrier of all times has the initials, JS....can anybody guess? I'm 55 years old and I believe this will never change.

Jacques Strappe...sorry guys...
I believe Mr Strappe just edged out Richard Simmons for :1st:

This one was a trip down memory lane.

As someone who saw Jim Brown play, I truly believe he has had no equal. He was the most punishing running back I ever saw. I would give honorable mention to Jim Taylor, as a punishing runner. Brown would have had the most amazing statistical career if he has stayed in pro ball. Think of it, everything he did was in NINE seasons. . .

I saw Sayers play and Csonka; both were exceptional. Sayers career was cut short by knee injuries. Payton was amazing and much like Brown; he was never afraid to hit. Simpson rates right up there. I saw him play at USC. I think that Jackson and Campbell might be a tier below, but only because of shortened careers.
Good point there on Sayers!! Shame about his knee injuries he was poetry in motion. Btw also on Jim Brown football wasn't even his bast sport. He was an even better at Lacrosse!!

I didn't see alot of the ol timers play, like Brown and Payton...the best I ever saw was Barry. He was never a bruiser, but I've never seen anyone move like him. I think he would have been considered the best had he kept playing.

Payton lived up to his nickname of "Sweetness". I wasn't even a Bears fan and I loved to watch him run. Brown had shear bull power, but I don't think he would have been as successful had he played in the mid-eighties (JMO). Emmit was incredibly talented but so was Tony Dorsett, Marcus Allen, Earl Cambell, and Erik Dickerson. They just didn't have the spark that Walter had. Barry was great inspite of the Lions, had he been teamed up with some more talented players his career would have been unbelievable. I think LT has the potential to be one of the greatest but it will take time to determine.

If LT keeps any fragment of the pace he is on right now, i think he will be hard to argue with....

Well I didn't get a chance to vote but it had to be B. Sanders IMHO. I have never seen a human move like Sanders. He put up numbers despite his supporting cast. People that don't like Sanders state he has bloated numbers due to big runs when the Lions were out of the game. I say that's rubbish. The guy didn't have anyone around him with talent. Teams focused their entire efforts on stopping Sanders. Youtube some highlights of some of the great backs and compare with Sanders. I will say though that Brown was before my time. Many say he was the greatest but I remember Walter very well. LT puts up huge numbers and is what I call the new age back. He can do it all. He can catch as well as most WR's run between or around the tackles, and can block. He will be considered elite when he retires.
