  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Why do ye do it?

This started out as a response to another thread. It came to mind when writing about how I've changed since I started smoking cigars. When realizing how it brings the good out of me, a calm and patient person.

We now live in a time where some blokes smoking a cigar are, not only seen as an unusual sight, but frowned upon, while beeing asked to "put that smelly thing out." This has happened to me in the smoker's area of various places, and have been asked this by cigarette smokers. But it wasn't always like this. Once people like us could sit back and relax after a good meal and light up a cigar, pairing it with a neat cognac, whilst sharing the expirience with good company. When fellow BOTLs weren't viewed as inconsiderate, but as a refined person with good taste. Someone who cared for the taste the smoke gave, who cared about the finner things in life. It also talks about a person who knows how to give himself/herself time. Someone who can pause his/her day in order to appreciate a good time for himself/herself. Someone that is always learning new aspects of his/her hobby; his/her passion, always willing to learn more, to try new stuff. I smoke cigars because I love the taste it gives. I smoke cigars because I like what it brings out of me. I smoke cigars because, why not? Why do ye smoke for?

I like to meet at a club with friends and watch Duane light and smoke something he's never had before. Man he gets funny faces!:headroll:

Because I enjoy it as a hobby, and I love the smells and flavors of fine cigars. Also I get a real kick out of telling people to go F*ck themselves if they make a comment to me about me smoking a cigar in a public place that allows smoking.

Time spent with a good a cigar for me is many things, a time to relax, a time to reflect. I think George Sands summed it up very well in saying "A cigar numbs sorrow and fills the solitary hours with a million gracious images."

Almost every good memory I have can be paired with a cigar. I smoke cigars because I like them. (and the buzz)

When I`m with company, a cigar adds to the commaradarie.
When I`m alone, the sense of well-being produced by a good smoke can be almost indescribable.

Plus, they`re truly yummy, and I love getting my ass kicked by the really strong ones:grin:

I began smoking cigars after my first, earliest experiences with aficionados- who introduced me to the social groups cigars bring together. Now as I travel, I look for new lounges and great, exciting people. I just met some of the best in Las Vegas at The Cigar Lounge TABAQUERIA- which is just a little hole in the wall. There are few places I would rather be than around great company talking stogies and life.

ALSO
I hate to quote an edition of Cigar magazine, but I really do get from a good cigar and fine scotch what I never could from a $300, once a week therapy session. Sometimes, I can't find the happy place. But, more often than not, there comes a time when I am able to slide down a little further down my chair, slow my breathing and let all the shit I have piled on top of more shit simply pass from my mind. Everything becomes fuzzy and warm and I feel a deep appreciation for simply living... just to be in that moment.

PS- I think that Fidel may have said it better!

I like them, and I get to just enjoy relaxing. Being able to let go of all the stresses and just focus on a great cigar, truly soothing.
