So last night I decided to go out on my back patio, light up a cigar and enjoy the night. I grabbed a Gurkha Expedition I had got about year ago in a CI sampler, pulled my chair out to the edge of my patio, lit up, and stared into the closest thing we have to the woods in the suburbs of Richmond.
It was a very still night and I was the only person outside, that I could tell, in the whole neighborhood and I was enjoying the peace and quite. Now like I said I live in the suburbs and we just happen to have enough trees in our back yard so that you can't see the houses in the next neighborhood about a hundred yards away and thats it. That being said the only animals I have ever seen out there would have to be the squirrels that run around during the day.
So I was about an inch through the cigar when I noticed something moving about twenty feet in front of me. I look and saw that it was a freakin' deer walking by that hadn't noticed me sitting there. I thought that was pretty cool considering where I was, but I just sat there and let it pass. About ten minutes later I hear something else in about the same spot and figure its just the deer again and stand up to get a better look. As soon as I get up three jack rabbits take off back towards the stream. I can't say I've ever seen rabbits in richmond so I'm starting to think this is a cool night.
By the time i'm a couple inches through my cigar it has gotten quiet again and I am very relaxed and about to finish up and head in. For no reason I look to the side and I see that a black cat without any tags or collar is walking three feet behind me and stalking who knows what without even noticing me. Without even looking at me it just keeps on walking into the next yard. Now I don't know if you would consider that wild life but none of my neighbors have cats so i'm counting it.
Well I let my cigar die a peaceful death and head inside and walk by a couple of frogs just chilling on the back porch. Now i'm sure for some of you all of this is a normal occasion, but for someone like me who grew up near the city this was pretty cool and I just though I would share. By the way the cigar was great. It was very balanced, medium smoke with a leathry taste and just a hint of spice with a good finish. I'm not sure if I enjoyed the cigar so much because its quality or because of the great night outside, but i doubt that it matters. Sorry to ramble on so long and I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but it seemed like it. Just thought I would share my experiences with the rest of ya :smokingbo
