  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So I have all of the materials on order for my new wineador build I plan to do in about a month (depending on drawer arrival). I am planning on converting a Newair 18 bottle wine cooler, but need some help on what to target for humidity. I was planning to have one humidor and wanted to age some of my cigars too. Planning to use humidity beads for control but wasn't sure if I should use 65% or 70% for my humidor.

If I use 70% beads does that mean that I should be somewhere around 65-70% and would this be sufficient for aging cigars properly? Or am I better off using the 65% beads? Just looking to get some opinions.

Thanks,

Be sure to stop by the Introduction section and tell us a little about yourself!

For your question, that's personal preference. I use 65% beads and am more than satisfied. My cigars that get acclimated to 65% all burn and smoke fantastically.

I use 65% beads as well. Started off at 70% and found my cigars smoke and burn much better the closer to 65% they are. That 5% seemed to solve quite a few frustrations for me.

When I assembled my wineador I knew little about RH and how cigars smoke differently at 70% and 65%. A lot of Brothers here recommended 65% so I just went with their expertise and went with it. I ordered 65% HF beads and couldn't be happier. My wineador stays rock steady and 65% and all my sticks have smoked/burned very well. I don't really use my wineador to "age" per se, and have no experience in aging cigars so I'm not sure of the temp/RH you would want if you did want to go that route also.
