I bought the NewAir before I ordered the shelves so I got it up and running with the baking soda while John made my shelves. I didn't mean to imply that it would take 2 months. In a matter of days the smell was pretty much gone.

One other thing: alcohol based products can help open "pores" in the plastic and generate a higher rate of off gassing. A quick rub with 91% alcohol or your favorite adult beverage (neat) will help the process along, quicker.
