BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

This is the way I see it so take it for what it's worth. If a woman is a homemaker then she should be the best at being a homemaker. If she is a doctor, lawyer or a waitress should should be the best at that. When a wife is being fully supported as a homemaker I think that many of the rules should apply...call me old fashioned. My wife and I have battled with this over the years. Whatever job you take in life you should honor it with giving it your all. I think after 9 years of marriage my wife finally gets it. Clean house, dinner on the table every night, and a woman not dressed in pajamas 90% of the time. I want my house to be ready for me when I get home. Shit, I think I deserve it. Many women think I'm a pig for by beliefs. I don't really care. Do what you do with all your heart. If you are a housewife then those rules apply...period. I agree with all of them 100%

I think that was posted here or on another board before and at the time Rachel said that if we could afford for her to stay home she would love to adhere to those things...

We tried the wife staying home thing and absolutely nothing got done, ever. I think if the wife isn't going to work then her job is the household. If she works then the responsibilities are shared.
The most important thing is to respect each other. My mother did the '50's homemaker thing but my father did not respect her and it just made my mother bitchy. Dad traded her in for his secretary who would kick his butt whenever he got out of line and they lived happily ever after.

My sisters have continuosly told me that if I want to get a woman to do all that, I might have to go to some ranch in mexico, and just never actually bring her to the US so she won't get americanised.
A family friend invited them to his family ranch for a vacation, and my sisters told me that the girls are taught to care for the home.

BV, I honestly don't think it's the Americanized deal all that much. My wife's told me pretty much the same thing Todd's told him. If I can make enough to support us she would LOVE not to work and would be happy to keep up the house. So I'm right with Todd, COME ON RAISE! (except I don't get raises in my job, bah.)

the Americanised aspect is really not a factor, it's just a joke my sisters tell me. The joke goes, that once shes in the US and she sees all the freedoms that one has, she would go crazy trying to experience them all, that she would divorce just for the fact that it won't be looked down upon.
I was raised with the idea that, if a man can support the family by himself, the woman may choose to stay at home and take care of the home. If I want a maid, i'll hire one, I won't marry someone expecting them to be one.

The world, particularly the US has changed. Two income families is the norm. I think you will find that the raise simply puts you into a higher bracket and consumption fills the new void. I was raised in a traditional family where my mom stayed home. Our family did the same until the kids were in high school then she looked for something else and employment filled the bill. She doesn't have to work, she likes it. We feel blessed that we could do it this way. I know so many others that can't due to economic conditions. I can remeber when the extended family all lived togather, mom. pop, grandparents, even uncles and aunts. The men worked and the women keep the home. Keepign the home was harder. Now with the conveniences there is more time. Times change, times change
