  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I am currently looking at buying a Xikar cutter (only have a cheap plastic one I picked up when I bought my first cigar). I am wondering if there are any differences with the Xikar Xi cutters. From what I can tell they are the same but would like to know from people that have used them.

fox is spot on... the only difference in the xi1,2,and 3 are the materials on the handles and around the frame.. they function the same.. have the same cutting surfaces, same warranty, etc..

youre paying the extra for on the xi1 and 3 for exotic wood, metal, etc.. vs plastic/fiberglass on the xi2..

regarding weight, the xi2 is the lightest of the three options.. due to the materials used..

Thanks for the info now I just have to decide which one I like better. Are they worth the money?

I currently use a Xi2 as my only cutter. To me the lifetime warranty makes them a good choice. There are probably better cutters out there but, not many have free replacement forever.

Ive got an Xi2 as well.. I like it quite a bit, and use it almost daily..

I know a lot of people prefer the palio cutter.. but I havent bothered to change over to one... Ive been perfectly satisfied with the 2 xikar cutters Ive owned so far.. (although if I happen to find a really good deal on one.. I probably wont be able to pass it up...)...

Can't go wrong with the Xikar; I got one with the composite (plastic) handles to get into them inexpensively & they work very well. My fav right now is the Xikar V cutter BTW.

I Have a xikar with the black and white tribal graphic. Thing looks and works gnarly. Haven't used it as much since a bought a cuban crafters perfect cutter a few months back. But the xikar cutters are the real deal

So it sounds like I can't go wrong either way. I will have to se if I can find a B&M that sells both so I can see how they feel.

I like how the Xikar fits in my hand, but i like the cut my Pallio gives me better. There are a couple of differences in the knob on the Xikar too, i like the newer ones that have like a bigger oval shaped lever instead of the small round button. But im also a big stickler for how things feel in my hands so to each their own, either way you cant go wrong with the Xikar or the Pallio.

I have a Palio and don't like it - the material around the blades is too thick and I have a hard time getting an accurate cut. I have several Xikars and love them - personally I like the feel of the Xi1 and Xi3 better than the Xi2 but they all give nice cuts.

Can't go wrong with either if you looking for a solid cutter. Personally, I prefer scissors. May want to check some out before you buy.

I am a stickler for how things feel in my hand as well. Do you just like the heft of the Xi1 & Xi3 over the Xi2 or is it because of the materials?

I personally prefer the Xikar models - I have one Pailo cutter and it takes more force and doesn't seem as sharp as my Xikar cutters.

I have several cutters. Daily I grab my Xikar V cutter, or my Palio. My Xikar teardrop stays at the house to be used on the rare occasion I happen to be there, and need to clip a cigar. Even then, I tend to go out to the truck and use that one over grabbing that Xikar.
