  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I just purchased a new Xikar Executive lighter. I am wondering what to expect from it. I heard that Xikar is one of the best not only for it's warranty but it's functionality. Should I be looking to have this lighter light every time i press the button? On my old Colibri Firebird, it would not necessarily light on the first press. I just want to make sure I know what to expect.
Thanks

Bill

It may take a click or two, but more times then not...

Just make sure you purge the lighter b4 filling and not shake the butane b4 you fill it... it should work like a dream.

Only other tid bit, is some executives do not like to work as well (note: I said AS WELL) on full power then they do slightly less than full power.

Wouldn't you like to know?
I have 3 different xikar lighters and like them. My executive has been the least reliable and has been sent back 3 times. It always seems to either wind up with a very small flame or overheat and refuse to stay lit. I still would recomend xikar's as they have great warrantee and usually just replace the whole unit.

I just ordered one myself. Don Pepin was using one last week. He prefers a soft flame so I said " If it good enough for the master ..."

I hope you're wrong about the warranty :)

I happen to own the Xikar Executive as well. I've had mine a little over a year now and it performs wonderfully. It might take a click or two to get it going, but it remains to be a reliable lighter.

The only drawbacks with the lighter is the tiny tank; one good night of stogie-smokin' will require a refill... or two.

I have had one for two years and the only time it does not work is when it is real real low on butane. It is my every day lighter where as my trezo stays at the house. I love all of my xikar stuff never has failed me yet.

My wife had the Executive & ended up trading up for the Plunge which had to be traded in for another, but the new one works well.

My favorite is still the Enigma.

I should be getting it today so I will give it a try and let you guys know.

Thanks for the responses. This is the first forum I have ever been on where people actually respond to questions with informative answer! I knew joining was the right decisions.
I look forward to learning from everyone and hopefully one day I will be able to spread some knowledge as well.

I have the Executive and have not had any problems with it. I just hate the small fuel tank it has. I am always re-filling it. I prefer my Ronson. I also have some Chinese knock-off Blazers on the way that I heard work pretty good.

I had an Executive. It stayed clogged all the time. Then one of my golf buddies forgot to give it back. I didn't even try to get it back. Before it was clogged it worked great. I also had an Enigma. That damn thing never lit on the first couple tries. It was annoying. I am on my second of two Plunge lighters. The first Plunge had the plastic spring retainer near the torch head melt and it stayed jammed up. I barely use the second one which was a warranty replacement.

At least they have a warranty.

Ooh and the EX is very much a high heat flame. It's essentially a torch hidden by a soft flame. You can hear the "wooosh" of butane being burnt up with the EX but it does exhibit soft flame characteristics.

Well I finally got it. I have lit 3 smokes from it. So far so good. I was just at a local cigar shop today. I saw the exact same design as the xikar executive, but it said Firebird where xikar is. I don't believe it was made by colibri. It is basically the exact same lighter. Has anyone heard of this Firebird?
