XIKAR announced on Wednesday that they will be lowering the prices of their HC series of cigars.
In a statement released via e-mail, Jerry Dear, EVP Sales & Marketing, said that "the most common encounter in this age of inflation is a price increase driven by rising costs and increasing taxation. XIKAR wanted instead to broaden our appeal and offer a wonderful cigar to everyone."
According to the release, consumers will see an average price drop of 18%, which will bring the cigars down to a price of $6 - $8 per cigar.
XIKAR currently produces three lines of cigars, all made by Jesus Fuego of J. Fuego Cigars. Their HC collection includes a Connecticut Shade, a Criollo, and a Habano Colorado. Their Criollo received a score of 91 from Cigar Aficionado and was named their #18 cigar of 2008 when it was sold under the Defiance name. XIKAR's Habano Colorado earned the magazine's #24 of 2009 rating after getting scores of 91 and 92.
"We realize this decision is unprecedented in the midst of many competitive price increases, but XIKAR's core values and culture demand that we listen carefully to our consumers and respond accordingly," said Kurt Van Keppel, XIKAR's president, in the press release.
"The blends and the quality will not change," added Scott Almsberger, Vice-President of Product Development in a statement. "I personally guarantee that XIKAR HC Series cigars will continue to be produced using the highest quality aged tobacco, so consumers can continue enjoy they same great HC Series Cigars.
XIKAR HC cigars are sold in over 500 cigar stores around the country.
