Was chatting with a friend today and he said that 1999-2002 were dismal years in terms of quality control. Furthermore, he said that he buys from 2004 to present or pre-98.

Thoughts?

I would agree that there are a lot of inconsistencies for cigars from 1999-2002. But I have had some very good smokes from those years also. As for why your friend skips 2003 is interesting. I have had some stunning cigars from 2003 and seek them out depending on the factory code.

I know there were lots of problems b/w those years but ya never know today I smoked a 2002 Partagas coronas delux that was gifted to me on a trade as a hitchicker and it was fantastic. Wish I had more than one!:cbig:

I wouldn't pass on any years automatically, especially if I a) knew what I was buying, b) the price was right or especially c) both A and B.

Anyone looking to get rid of LGC mdo's from the plagued years you know where to find me! :headroll:
jfire,

You hit the nail on the head! What a glorious smoke... had one the other day that was from 2000. Just a stunning smoke!

A pity that they are discontinued. Holding onto hope that saner minds will prevail and restart this line.

I have a half box of RS #12 from 2000 left. I have not had a single issue with them and they taste amazing. That said, maybe 1 in 5 smokes I have had from those years have had some issue or another.

I also avoid 04 to late 05. Too many loosely rolled cigars & too many similar tasting brands. I looked for 2002 & 2006 to 2011. Currently not buying anything as I have more than enough.

I agree with this, especially the part about 2003 cigars. I would note that some of the best H. Upmann #2s I have ever had were several boxes from '02, and also several boxes of Partagas Coronas.

Those years were coming out of the cigar boom, however I do not remember that really effecting Cuba as much as it did non-Cuban cigars. I tried looking around for fact, however around that time was also, I believe a hurricane that devistated the Cuban tobacco farms, production issues and quality control probably are not what made those bad years, rather what happened to the crop is what I am thinking.
