new jersey always seems to get a bad rap... well, maybe it's deserved. this is how the skulls of mush get educated there!!!!

The pouf is mightier than the pen when it comes to speaking fees at New Jersey's largest university.

The Rutgers University Programming Association paid Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi of the reality TV show "Jersey Shore" $32,000 Thursday to dish on her hairstyle, fist pumps, as well as the GTL -- gym, tanning, laundry -— lifestyle.

Money for Polizzi's appearance came from the mandatory student activity fee. She was booked by a student-run entertainment organization.

University officials booked Nobel-winning novelist Toni Morrison for $30,000 to deliver Rutgers' commencement address in May. This year marks the first time Rutgers has paid for a commencement speaker.

As for Snooki's speaking price, Freshman Adham Abdel-Raouf told The Star-Ledger of Newark he thought it was a bargain given the pint-sized star's popularity.

Snooki's advice to students: "Study hard, but party harder

The youth of today....what the hell else can you say!
I take offense to that :angerFU:

I'm part of today's youth, and I can come up with a whole gamut of professional writers, speakers and presenters who I'd rather hear a speech from.

Not all of us are Jersey Shore lovin', Vodka-Tampon usin', drug abusin' assholes...

Most of us are just assholes.

Also, a while ago (can't remember when) the cast of Jersey Shore was hired to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange... turns out even "the adults of today" can be idiots

EDIT: To be fair though, my roommate is a huge fan of Jersey Shore - He claims he likes it because it makes him feel like a better person in comparison, then he attempts to emulate the "people" on that show... What is the logic there!?

At least that's voluntary (not the fee, but at least the tuition that it's attached to and the choice to attend), almost as bad as all the earmarks they use my mandatory tax dollars for!

No, he's absolutely right, you just happen to be in a very small minority... most of today's youth are all of the above and probably think that's an excellent use of funds... :barf:

LMAO! Nice find Bob, love it. This explains why Universities get away with charging you $40K to teach you H.S. Math and English the first couple years of your edumication and call it your "core" classes, what a joke!

Retards...all of them.

We really need education reform. The liberals are indoctrnating our children. College kids are almost all socialist hippie freaks.
I tend to lean Liberal, and yet, I cannot stand the Liberal attitude of most college students. However, I do not think they are being indoctrinated, despite professors commonly being Liberal minded themselves. Extreme Liberal and Utopian ideals are a part of being young. Then you see how shit really works, and those ideals start to disappear.

I would rather look at Sammi or JWoww than that cow.
Sometimes I think Sammi is kind of cute, but then there will be those shots of her looking awful.

People just lack all common sense. I don't get why anyone would watch that show. Do they even realize just by watching it they themselves become a douche bag.

Television is just going down hill. My biggest pet peeve is shows about lame jobs. Pawn shops? Fishing? Logging? Hunting? Mining? Trucking? Eating?

Seriously come on. It isn't even entertainment, it just hooks people into watching due to mildly interesting topics and over hyped drama due to the fact there is a camera there. It's like news, they just want to see what happens next.

Sorry but I refuse to give money to these networks who are airing this crap.

Just goes to show were priorities are with today 90% of our youth and how most colleges really could give a crap. I'm glad I raised my kids to be leaders and not followers. They think people like that are a waste of humanity....I love my kids!

And that would be the kids that became the teachers and professors of today. Straight from college to teaching with the only "real life" experience one of protest and fantasy.

At least in Snooki's case, the students (kids) of the University made a decision to use their budget to get a speaker they wanted to see. When I was in school we hired the band from Animal House, that might have been silly, but it was fun.

In the case of hiring Toni Morrison, it wasn't the students, but the administrators who hired a fellow member of academia that most never heard of, who has written books we haven't read, and who owns what is now a devalued Nobel prize.

Anyway, if I had my choice of speakers, I'd opt for Brooklyn Decker no matter the cost.
