Just got a new toy... a Zino DC-3 (double-corona, 3-finger) carbon fiber cigar case.

It's typical carbon fiber - very thin, very light, very rigid, with a shimmering, 3-dimensional texture that appears to move when you move it around. It's very cool to look at but hard to capture in a photograph. Each of the two pieces is made from two halves joined together. You wouldn't notice this at first glance, but you can tell if you look closely. I'm not sure it would survive being sat on, but it appears to be more than strong enough for normal cigar case duty.

The inside diameter is just under 7/8 inch (56 RG). It easily holds a 50RG robusto. I tried some Liga Privada No. 9 and T52 robustos (5x54), and 3 of them fit comfortably, but a 4th was fairly tight - chalk that up to sample variation in the cigars. The case telescopes - fully collapsed, it holds a 5-inch stick, with a few millimeters to spare; expanded, it will hold up to an 8-inch stick.

I bought the case from CupOJoes.com. It was my first transaction with them, and I'd heard that their website does not have real-time inventory, so I ascertained via email that the item was in stock before I placed the order. The transaction went very well. I also found the case at JackSchwartz.com, at a slightly higher price. There is an identical item, branded "The Griffin's," but it appears to be discontinued and unavailable. PipesAndCigars.com lists The Griffin's version on their website, but they don't have the double-corona size in stock (I didn't ask about the narrower corona size).

Having just received it, I'm quite pleased so far, but it hasn't yet gotten any real use. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has one of these and how it's worked out for you.
