Man couldn't even imagine having that much money. I'm probably in the minority but I'd take the payment option, and every year use it to take family on a nice vacation, build a retirement, and a little excess here and there. Yeah i'd work, but probably finish my degree first and maybe finally move out of Mom's house.

I haven't looked at the odds, but for me, an occassional ticket or two for a $90M pot makes more sense than a ticket at 5 times worse odds for $500M+.
FWIW, the odds are constant of picking a winner: straight odds of picking 5 of 56 integers AND 1 of 46 combined. which still sucks, but at the same rate at 50 as 500 mil.

the odds of pulling the ONLY winner, however, drastically worsen on larger pools.

good luck, smokers!

Don't even play. One has a better chance of being struck by lightning and going into cardiac arrest on their way to buy a ticket than actually winning the lottery.
Ooh, buzzkill. :crying: It's worth 5 bucks to me to fantasize for a couple of days as to what I would do.

I would have to look into opening an LCdH in the Bahamas. If it lost money....who cares? I am living in the Bahamas will a couple hundred million and all the cigars me and my BOTL friends could smoke. :waving:

odds of winning are around 1 in 179,000,000.

my better judgment says don't waste my time and money BUT I'm still gonna buy a few quick picks for fun.

nothing ventured nothing gained.

that's crazy cash, almost inconceivable, ALMOST :glassesgr

Pay off my student loads, dump a bunch into my retirement, figure out how much money my parents spent on my sister and myself then double it and mail them a check.

After that I'd try to continue my life as normal (as best as possible).

Pay off everything. Buy a few more houses around the globe and build a seperate smoking house on the same property as my primary home.
I would definately take the lump sum cash payout invest most of it and buy a huge annuity so that if I ever do pull an OJ I could still afford to golf everyday.

I can't imagine life with that kind of money. Can you imagine the constant barrage of people asking you for money? That kind of isolation alone would make that much cash undesirable.

If I won, I'd wait to claim the funds until I'd formed a foundation of some sort that legally prevented me from accessing more than say $100,000 a year and that legally obligated the board of said foundation put the rest of the money to work for non-profits, missionaries, and the like.

Alex Rodriquez made this much by playing baseball. That's just his salary, doesn't include endorsements!?!

$389,000,000 isn't the after tax number. It's just the cash option. You'd still have to pay taxes and would probably net a quarter billion after taxes. Barely enough to live on...

I would build a high-rise building for investment. Buy property in Cuba, and probably Nicaragua. Build a nice little mansion here with a walk-in hermetically sealed vault for cigars, and a place for smoking cigars. A few new vehicles, exotic animals, and women...er...oh hell yeah I said it.
Golf would become an every day occurance as well.

I can guarantee that I would make it down to a lot of herf's and events !

I have $6 in ones in my wallet I am going to drop on them on my way to work tonight. Worth a try, worst case scenario is just one less cigar I get to smoke and I can live with that.
