Grab a LFD digger; if you lose power you could still use it as a touch for a couple days :)

a close buddy of mine and a member of this forum (cschwable) is on the Suffolk County Urban Search and Rescue Team. He is the one who goes in when the retarded people who were ordered to evacuate do not listen then realize how bad the storm is and say holy shit i need to get out of here. lets not forget about our first responders (most of whom are volunteers where I live).

I'm up in Scranton, PA and we haven't got much yet. Some drizzling rain and a bit more windy than normal. We are getting ready to go out and help local police departments if need be. For all the other brothers in blue out in the weather, stay safe!!

Stay safe everyone! And take a moment to remember these guys:
Since 1937, the Old Guard has not vacated its post at the Tomb of the Unknowns.. not for one second.. not for any reason..

The unit has weather contingency plans.. and no soldier is required to stand post if it is determined that they could be in danger..

but even when those determinations are made.. volunteers step up, and the post has always gotten covered..

They refused to leave last year during Hurricane Irene.. and endured 40 MPH winds.. with gusts up to 70MPH recorded at Arlington National Cemetary..

Truely an amazing group of young men.. the epitome of dedication and resolve..

Here on LI I'm expecting some serious winds but I'm only semi prepared. Propane tanks ready for cooking, batteries, ice and my wife tied to the huge oak tree out front.

Sitting on Long Island with the Urban Search and Rescue team. They expect it to hit us later tonight. Last brief said sustained 40mph winds with 60-75mph gusts. Swells 15ft on the shore. We have evacuated Fire Island and most of the north and south shores.

Stay safe guys.....

Right in the path! We have a curfew here in Jersey City! Pretty much have to bunker down and tough it out. Winds are picking up a lot. Just gonna smoke a stogie and watch if from safety.

I am hunkered down in the direct path of Sandy. Bad thing is I am in a hotel room and was not prepared for this. The people here said that the last few storms that came thru here were not that bad as expected. Famous last words if you ask me. Could not leave as I am working here. Hopefully I will not lose power and will just sit it out.
Yup, that's why we are out here as well. The office doesn't want us to leave until there is an actual reason for it. They did call to check on us this morning, but it's just been rain for a few days. The killer for us, was that we came out after a week of vacation, so the fridge in the RV was totally empty. Hit town and had to go grocery shopping among a buying frenzy for Sandy. I can handle a power outage, and we grabbed cash to deal with downed phone lines/credit card machines. Doesn't look like it's going to hit us that bad, still no power outages to this point.

Lol, nice.

We're ready here in Philadelphia (as ready as can be considering this is a very rare occurrence for us).

I agree, and I was proud to call them my brothers when I served.
