I thought I ordered my helping of this last week and started wondering why I hadn't gotten it yet. I must have screwed up the check out because I never actually ordered it until yesterday. Doh!

Were just doing PMs to you for next month right?

The following is an exchange I had with Amanda, from justforhim.com
(I've had some communication with her in the past and thought I would reach out for a little more information on this blend)

Amanda,

Our online cigar forum (BOTL.org) has a growing pipe following, and we decided to start doing a “Pipe Tobacco of the Month” review.
I submitted the Just For Him “Shortcut to Mushrooms” blend for consideration, and it was chosen as our first month’s tobacco!
[link to this thread]
(hopefully you have already seen orders from a handful of our participants)
As your website only gives the more “character” description of this blend, “Latakia is blended with mushrooms straight from Farmer Maggot's field,” I was hoping you could give me a little more insight. Is this mainly a Cavendish? I’m not looking for any secrets, just the base components, which is the main player, what might be added, etc. (more like how you list “Old Toby” – “Matured and red Virginias are blended with sweet burleys to enhance aroma. Perique is added...”)

Please let me know if this doesn’t quite make sense...

Thank you for your time!
Clint

Okay, I checked with the boss and this is as specific as I am allowed to be:
Shortcut to Mushrooms is a combination of Virginias, with smooth vanilla, finished with a light spicy note. There is no predominant component – they are all spread fairly equally.
We are extra protective of Shortcut, because it is one of our most popular blends worldwide. Sorry I can’t be more specific! I checked out the website, and it looks awesome. I’ll make sure to check in at the end of the month to read the reviews.
Thank you!

Amanda
Just thought I would share.

tobaccocellar.com has it listed as "Lat, Cav" but I think that site is like wikipedia and anyone can enter any information they'd like.

javajunkie had described it quite well in a previous post:
that is a nod to the LotR franchise, when a young frodo cut through farmer maggot's properties to the beloved mushroom patch. what it IS, however, is a crosover english, Va and Lat with a Cav element to sweeten it up. now, if you get some mushroomy elements out of that, that's not necessarilly a bad thing...

I got mine but must have packed my pipe like a dumbass. I got about 5 min of smoking and it wouldn't stay lit. Anyhow I will into this and do up my review. I will say I am glad I got four ounces as my sample. The 5min of smoke I got was damn pleasurable.

I had my first bowl last night. Like I said I suck at reviews. My sinuses are horrible so I have a difficult time picking out flavors. The jury is still out on whether I like it or not. It has a sweetness I cant put my finger on yet. Stayed tuned I will try and post more on my thoughts on it.

....So lost!!
Shiitake??
Those were so 1990s.

Gotta go with the Oyster (obviously I, too, am confused)
We did a poll on a Tobacco of the month to review. Once the tobacco is picked we each get some then post a review. Its a way for us to build our cellars (not that I need anymore bacyy lol) and to sample some different stuff that may be out of our normal range of blends. Then do our best to review and compare our comments and likes and dislikes together. All are welcome to join in. I will be posting up the poll for next months blend to review in a few days.

Okay my first two bowls were after smoking other stuff. It seemed better then, but today I smoked it with a clean mouth and I do not like. I put it down 10 min into the bowl, ate something drank water and lit up a guapos Jr. Its a sticky tongue coating thing that leaves a strange twang in my mouth. Im not much of a fan of Aros though so this might explain my viewpoint. Tobacco can be plenty sweet on its own, this is overly sweet for me. If I didn't get the bizarre after taste and it wasn't sticky sweet I could see liking the hint of vanilla being nice with an English blend.

YES! I can't put my finger on the after taste. The odd sweetness. The snork. I've had tobaccos I didn't like before but this one I just can't stand the snork.

Ok I'm new to pipes so I'm not sure how good this will be.

I've had 3 bowls of shortcut to mushrooms in 2 different pipes. It's the first pipe tobacco that actually had flavor compared to cigars. it wasn't nearly as strong but they were there. It's also the first pipe tobacco that I got the nicotine hit from like you do in stronger cigars. (I smoked on an empty stomach)
That all being said i enjoyed the tobacco. It actually stayed lit very well and provided a lot of smoke which I like. (I actually stopped after an hour yestrday and it still had some time left) I've only had 4 or 5 different tobaccos so I'm not sure I can rate it. But I can say that for me it provided a pleasant somewhat stronger smoke than the other tobaccos I've tried so far.

So here's my newb review, and thanks to java for sending me a sample.

First off, I really like the pre light aroma, it almost reminds me of how it smells after it rains. Like a sweet, damp earth.

I do have one complaint, the first two bowls I had, I didn't let them dry a bit which I usually dont, but with this blend it led to a lot of relights.

The bowls after those were left to dry for for a bit before smoking, which gives way to another thing I liked about it; it never gave me tongue bite. No matter fast I puffed of the thing it never bit, only got a bit hot.

The really enjoyed the taste of it, it is very mild, but in a way that I don't mind. It's like a blend you get that's very easy to smoke and calming. It has a unique sweetness to it that's different from other aro's I have tried. I do pick up a tiny bit of spice if I pay close attention when smoking it .

My 2nd, and final con is that it feels like it gets and bit goop-y towards the end. That doesn't bother much though.

In conclusion: I like it, so you guys who don't send it all to me haha.

Unfortunately I compare all my english blends to frog morton, so here is my quick write up. This seemed like a aro english mix, it wasn't so sweet that itfelt like it was topped but itwas definitely there. It had a nice kick to it. It didn't seem to have that nice latikia puch I like. So overall I have other preferred english blends but this is a good intro into english style.

I'm really a novice with all tobacco, but I really enjoy this blend.
For me, it has smoked very easy with minimal (if any) relights even without any drying prep.
I'm also a fan of the big smoke output. I need to learn to slow down and "sip" my pipe, but for where I'm at right now I found it quite enjoyable.
Even with me likely smoking faster than I should, it never got hot (not in any of the pipes I smoked it in) and I never got any tongue bite.
I found it to have a very rich, warm, hearty, almost meaty flavor. On name alone, this is what I expected "Meat Pie" to taste like.
I'm not sure if the flavors are as earthy as they seem, or if it's somewhat attributed to power of suggestion from a blend with "mushrooms" in the name.
To be fair, this blend was already in my cellar prior to being picked for review, and a positive opinion was already formed.
As most of my pipe smoking has been done on the way to work (~20-40min) I'm yet to smoke a bowl down to ash so I haven't experienced any of the goopy-ness.
I had to go back and smoke more so I could look for the perfume that Dave mentioned, and I did find it somewhat, although not nearly as much as some blends that I found it to be overwhelming in.
Sorry this was late, Dave. I'll try to do better for March!

I know there are a handful of other guys out there that smoked this in February, as I sent it to at least four other people that haven't posted.
Still post up your thoughts, guys, even if you're a week late. Even if you just give it a "1 to 10" rating, or a simple "I liked it/hated it". (of course the "why" is the part that most people will want to read)
I think these review threads were long overdue and Grrrrr609 is doing a great thing for BOTL getting this organized! Thank you Sir!
