Hey guys,

I was wondering if any of you "purge" your cigar while smoking. I mean as in blowing through the burning stick to eliminate the excess smoke that has built up in the barrel. I've heard that this makes the flavors better throughout and helps the cigar be more flavorful and less bitter. What do you think?

I usually do it with longer sticks, it sometimes salvages the flavor if a stick starts going bitter on me. I was wondering your opinions.

If you need to purge often, you are smoking too fast, or you may have a loosely rolled cigar.
Generally I purge once or twice during a cigar for the heck of it.
If you have to let one go out and plan to come back to it,definitely purge your cigar.
Simply reverse pressure back thru the stick very gently for 3 or 4 seconds.

Ditto. Mostly once or twice during the cigar. Especially if it starts building up undesirable flavors.

You're not supposed to eat your cigar, bro. Just smoke it. If your butthole is purging actual cigars (not just cigar shaped excrement) then you need some serious help. Are you eating them or...

...sorry for that - I guess.

Anyway, I purge right after lighting. IF the cigar starts to go bitter, I'll purge then, too. If purging doesn't fix the issue, I toss it and get a new one.

I do it without thinking before every draw. I cant really say if Ive noticed if it makes that big of a difference, just a habit I guess. Maybe if nothing else it cuts down on the need for a warning puff? And I think the flavor of burnt unlit tobacco is kinda nasty, so I like to make sure Im not about to take a nice, long, tarry, burnt cold draw (i smoke all my cigars in a humidor, so sometimes they suddenly go out, some worse that others *ahem cough cough la imperiosa cough cough warped)

I don't usually find my cigars getting bitter, because I've learned to smoke slow. I'll usually get 1.5 hours or more from a robusto, 2 hours for a toro, so I don't purge to improve flavor. I do, however, purge occasionally to help the burn along because when I'm smoking slow I sometimes have them go out on me. I'm willing to believe that, as a byproduct, I get some benefits to the flavor.

Have I done this to him already?
Hahahaha! No that was someone else. Poor Brandon just can't help himself. Every statement is a doorway to twisted humor that he can't help but walk through. I for one am thankful for it, as long as it's at someone else's expense.... :meh:
