If I run out of money at the pub, I have spent my daily allowance.

I use my checkbook to pay bills, and give myself a cash allowance everyday. When I am out of money, I have to wait till the next day to continue my Rock and Roll lifestyle.

This system ensures the bills get paid, the girl is happy, and I still get to spend time and or money doing things I like.

When the wallet and bank account is empty, there is no more spending.

Relatively simple Excel spredsheet. I tried Quicken years ago, but I had difficulty getting used to using it. Maybe I'll try again.

I like openoffice for all the programs, but I still use quicken for personal finanaces. I plan on starting to us TSPKey for my retirement account, for any Fed employees that use TSP.

Me too. It's something I can do at work too.
Quicken just didn't work with the way I think.
