After reading mixed reviews and surprised by the cost I decided to try and find an option. I purchased a filtrate purple filter from Walmart, about $15 and taped it to a 20 inch box fan with the fan pulling the smoke through the filter. I also found an ozone generator on Ebay for under $60.

The fan sits on the table where I'm smoking and I run the ozone generator for 30 minutes after I leave the room. Seems to work pretty well for under $100. Just a hint, depending on where the fan control is you may want to turn the fan on high before taping the filter down, just unplug the fan when not using it.

Anyone else try this setup?

Sounds like a DYI fix to an expensive problem. You are not cheap, IMHO you are frugal, and smart to do the DYI thing.(y)(y)

Let us know how this works in the long run. Penny saved, is a Penny earned. :cigar:

I also put a dehumidifier in the room because I seldom run the AC. The room is old garage space and everything tends to get a bit moldy without the AC constantly running. The RH stays at 60% but I don't think the humidity will have any effect on smoke and odor removal.

sounds good to me, I'm thinking of adding 2 bath fart fans to the ceiling of my garage to vent to the attic or out the roof, in hopes of curbing some of the smell from smoking/brewing with the door down. Anyone tried anything like that?

Cut out holes for two vent boots and hook up an exhaust fan up there with 6” hose

I have a fart fan over the door but I don't want to pull the heat and cool out of the room if its only me smoking.

Right now pics would be embarrassing, a box fan with the filter, a chest freezer, unused exercise equipment, an old stereo and a card table. Not much to show or look at for that matter. I did re-purpose an old hospital commode for my chair. Put wheels where the feet used to be and a spare cushion from the couch where the hole used to be!

I've been running this set up for years in fact there is an old thread somewhere about it. It works way better for the money as opposed to any other system.

Cool, glad to know it may be a long term solution, I may put a standard house filter over the HEPA filter to lengthen it's usable life, probably the next thing to try.

Do you have one of these?? I like making wifey laugh

I don't care about the embarrassment, I just have to see pics of this, and yes I have thought about the fart fan, but I have no mechanical skills when it comes to something like this.
