BrewinHooligan, I'm in your boat brother. I love beer so I brew a lot of it, I love coffee so I converted an old popcorn popper, I love shooting guns so I reload my own rounds. Well, I also love cigars so now after seeing your beautiful smokes on HBT, I have 100 dollars worth of tobacco on the way. Trying to get started on the cheap, so I made a one dollar chavetta. Have some scrap wood laying around, so I made a mold. Seen a DIY tuck cutter had to make one with some scrap metal and wood I have laying around. What the heck is wrong with me? If I get divorced at least I'll have coffee, beer, smokes, and my guns to help me cope.

Tell me more about this DIY tuck cutter! Glad to see you over here

The one dollar chaveta knife. One dollar tree stainless steel scraper and about 5 minutes with the grinder.

Here's the start of the Tuck Cutter. A quick pass on the router table. Cut some angle iron, hit it with the grinder, heat treated the edge to harden the metal. Not sure if I'm going to put a slide stop on it or just drill holes for a peg. It's a work in progess.

Here's the mold. I offset one of the holes to see if that worked better. Well I quickly figured out that was a bad idea. I'll call this one a prototype. Still have some sanding to do but it should do the job.

Yup! Just changed it to open. Should be able to see them now.

I already made a change to my Tuck cutter. Ordered some concave razor blades. Now I have to figure out how to attach the blade to the arm. Thinking a few tack welds. Which will allow me to change out the blades if they get dull.

If you can and are willing to make another one with a slide stop let a guy know. A slide stop isn't even a must have, but I dig the hand made aspect of what you're doing. Message me if you wanna work something out.

BH,
This one is the prototype. When I get the concave razor blades installed to my liking and I figure out a good slide stop device. I'll for sure make you one. I got some torsion springs ideas in the works to. Right now it's a manual open but if I can find the right weight spring it will stay open. Going to switch to aluminum arms. I don't need steel if I've got disposable blades. I'll keep you posted on the progress with pictures.

Nice to hear, I've sparked interest! I'm working with a 3D printer place trying to find a way to mount disposable blades. I'll post my progress once I get a working prototype. If I can get a solid unit that works, I will gladly share it will y'all. Keep in mind I haven't even rolled a single cigar yet. I have a feeling I'm going to love rolling cigars.

I love liking them. I’m finding that I have time to roll maybe 5 here and there.
When I have time, I don’t really feel like it because it’s already been a long day.

I hope you find making a cigar as enjoyable as the rest of us do.

I'll be that guy orders 30 pounds of tobacco and only rolls 3 at time until he finds a killer blend. Then spends a weekend rolling 300 cigars. And, stops for 6 months or until that blend gets tiresome. And goes right back to square one with another 30 pound order.

Since a leaf yields two wrappers, roll in multiples of two. I suggest 4 at a time as a starting point unless you are testing a variety of wrappers, then you gotta increase that.

I placed an order with LO on Thursday, and I'm kinda shocked that it just arrived, Monday morning. That was with the standard 3-5-day turnaround. I guess Thursdays are the magical order day. I placed a WLT order this morning and I seriously thought I'd see those leaves before the LO ones I ordered 4 days ago.
