Anybody been keeping up with the push-ups?
I had lost ground big time.

Back at it now. Just one set per day along with other stuff.

Hitting 25 consecutive so far. Need to up that, but I was only getting 12 a few weeks ago....

@StogieNinja, I'm down to 4 pull ups as well, but my form is getting better, and hopefully reps will be starting to go up.

I finally managed 5 pull ups today, though that last one was uuuuugly...

I really want to pull off a muscle-up, but I guess that's a long way off..
Read somewhere that it can take up to 2 years of training to achieve. Really hope it doesn't take that long...

My little brother does sets of them. It’s pretty disturbing to watch actually. He’s my half brother so we have completely different builds and he’s younger by 13 years. Him being only only 5’4 his strength to weight ratio is something I could never hope to achieve...and he’s a personal trainer...and has been working for a few years to get where’s at. So yeah, it’s doable but you’ve gotta have the right build and really set up a program based on functional strength. I’ll stick with my 12oz curls.

Been working on increasing the pull ups also. Ill leave the muscle ups to the crossfit folks. I like how this guy breaks down and explains how to do exercises. Great advice on how to avoid injuries. He has a vid on muscle ups.

Hahaha, I don't think height is that much of an impeding factor. Just a lot of training needed to get fit enough and strong enough.

Ha! I'm usually around 170 lbs, but I muscle up in the spring and summer, then lose it in the fall and winter while hunting. Not enough time then to keep up...

Last May, I could do 60 pushups in 60 seconds. I could probably do 60 still, but not on pace.

Found his channel when I got back in the gym. Sucks getting old. To many years in the factory and playing softball. He has helped me figure out how to minamize the aches but adjusting how I lift.

Dude, you just captured a bent pull up bar, a mountain, a silhouette target, and either a goat or a really ugly dog all in the same pic. That might be the most hardcore picture I've ever seen on BOTL :ROFLMAO:
I'm more interested in what you're shooting at the target TBH.

I entirely fell off the push up bandwagon but I've been to the gym 5-6 days a week for the last two months. I'm still eating like complete and utter shit so the gym time is just keeping me from gaining more weight. But the wife and I are back on the wagon as of today. I'll likely drop 4-5lbs this week just of bloat/water weight and then it'll level out fast.

And I actually paid for cavalliere's AthleanX system (lifetime access) - I had paid for a Vshred program previously too (both 90 days). They both give me reason to go the gym. The structured, easy to follow work outs just work for me. And its a little motivation too (ie i paid for it I might as well use it). I've been through both 90 day programs so far over the last year fully once each - and then each one a few partial times as I've hopped on and off the bandwagon

Yeah in all honesty, it’s been just not being on the bandwagon.

Between roughly 60hr weeks between my job and our business through the holiday season, sick kids, and all the other things going on, I lost a lot of ground in terms of personal discipline around early November. Working until 11pm and having to be up at 6am and being woken up by a kid in between most nights will do that to a guy.

But now that Jan is here I need to focus on the disciplines I had been doing well with until then - a morning routine involving push-ups, pull-ups, and morning devotions. Hard to do when you already don’t sleep well and are trying to squeeze in time in the late evening with your wife, but I think if I can be intentional enough I can figure it out.

While I’m thinking of it, does anyone have any good recommendations for an an/core exercise I can do that’s not planking? I was doing that for a while but my lower back started killing me. I was making sure my body was straight not bent, etc.

I don’t want a six pack, I just want to be stronger and have better posture.

There are so many out there. Pushups themselves are actually great for this.

Look into a TRX setup. While you don't necessarily have to do specific core exercises, (everything on trx works core strength), it does a great job with pikes and a number of different core specific exercises if that's what you want. Those big exercise balls offer a lot of options, as your core is engaged to maintain body control and balance.

I don't do many core specific exercises.
Most of my lifting of free weights is done standing (other than bench, etc), and the core is engaged constantly. Don't forget to work the back muscles too. That will go a long way to fighting back pain as long as you are not dealing with injuries, and even then will help a ton if you do the right stuff. Check with a PT for ideas specific to an injury...

I'm ramping back up now too. Fall is always when my workouts and diet suffer. Busy with hunting seasons, holidays, etc. I always jump back in during December to start building the muscle back into shape and getting past the extreme muscle soreness. Come January, I'm ready to step it up, and get hardcore towards the end of winter. By late February, I'm 5 days a week, with 3 days lifting and 2 days High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). I'll go from mid 180s (now) to mid 160s (spring/summer) while building muscle.

Btw, you dont get a 6 pack working core. The concept that you can lose fat in a certain part of the body by working that area is fiction. That only comes with total body fitness. Belly fat is the last thing to go, and is accomplished through building muscle throughout the body (which burns more calories) and great diet.
