Fun times at the Cigar Lounge/Speakeasy this past Friday. There was a ton of brown gold to be shared; must’ve been 12 different bottles floating around. Surprisingly consumed a lot but wasn’t at all affected, hmmm.

Started the day out with this pile, actually this one was one of those rights of passage kind of things, by the time I arrived after my two hour journey everyone else had already tried it and hated it, so I had little option to pass lol. I will say this, it’s much better than screwball PB whiskey.

Washed off my palate with some Sweet Wheat, which wasn’t too bad i thought.

This was one of the stars of the day, which was a surprise to me given the off-putting name. Everyone loved it, even asked me to pick up some more for next time, as it’s not too common where I was. The most notable nuance was barnyard (use your imagination)

Looks like a good night, Matt @BourbonBinder. I just had someone whose palate I respect recommend the Johnny Drum. I've seen it many times and never paid any mind. Might have to give it a try as you liked it as well.

Went low proof last night, gave my palate a reset.

Just scored a ER Store pick for $40 on a raffle. Winning. Plan to snap the cap on that VW10 tonight. I need it bad.

Decided it being practically Christmas Eve and the last time I’ll be in reach of “the good stuff” for a week I decided to celebrate while watching my 7 year annual Christmas movie tradition “A Christmas Carol” (Jim Carrey version)

How does it compare to other budget bottom shelf bourbons like Evan Williams Small Batch or BiB?

Ya know, so many people like the EW Bib, but it just doesn’t suit me at all. Love the single barrel though... heaven hill, old forester 86, and rebel yell 100 have become my go to bottom shelters.

Good news / Bad news. Good news is the second pour of "Whiskey Rick" was much better...it really opened up nicely. Bad news is I cannot say the same about the second pour of 1792 FP.

1792 FP is really hit or miss depending on the night for me. Some nights it’s meh, some it really hits the spot. Go figure.

I’ll admit the BiB is also not my favorite bottom shelf BiB, as the Old Grand Dad Bonded is so much more intricate. The EW Single is in a different league though. Ever have the Small Batch?

Actually I haven’t, after the Bib, I didn’t think it was worth bothering with.

the juxtaposition of that cigar with that whisky is fantastic..

My bourbon day started great, and then turned amazing.

In the AM, received my end of a trade, a 14 year 11 month Knob Creek SiB store pick that I traded an Weller 107 for.

Then the amazing....a gift from Kris Kringle, who lives in California, or Colorado, or Antarctica. 15-02 Booker's export bottle....I am floored. Probably need to open this one tonight or tomorrow for Christmas, it will be the oldest Booker's I've ever opened. If anyone here knows Kris, pass along my heartiest thanks.
