Was at the beach in chest deep water a couple weeks back and saw the severed head of a BIG redfish pop up a couple yards away from me. Could tell it was a fresh kill, saw the teeth marks on it and everything...had been cleanly severed. People have been caching some big ones around here so not too surprising but still a hell of a sight to see when you're not in fishing mode and are just trying to boogie board a little.

Edit: Forgot to mention, a few weeks prior to this, was at the beach again, this time about waist deep. Something big, solid, and alive bumped both of my shins at once hard enough to make me nearly fall over. Headed right on back to shore after that. Found out that it's difficult to open a beer when your hands are trembling.

I gave up the beach a long time ago. To old to do the Walk On Water trick anymore. Um, how did you get close enough to see the toothmarks on the redfish?
It was only about 6 or 8 feet away from me, and the water was unusually clear that day so the toothmarks stood out vividly. I was expecting to see stringy mushy flesh and missing eyeballs like when the crabs have been at it a while but nope. Must have been an absolute hoss that snipped a bull red with what looked like one bite.

Little late for this reply, but an opossum is one of the few critters that can't get rabies. They are ugly bastards though.
Thats not true. Its “incredibly uncommon”. They think because of how low their body temps are. But i did not know that. As a kid i was always told day time opossums were rabid. Any every one i encountered in the daytime was crabby and confused so i assumed. The more ya know! Thanks for calling out by BS buddy!!!
