Typically, I spend 20 to 30 dollars on a sampler pack or a 5 pack of the lower end of the price spectrum. This time, craving my first torpedo cigar, decided to try an online retailer other than Gotham cigar. I had only used them before because I'm a little wary of the possibility of spending money on a site that could in fact be fake. So I went outside my comfort zone and searched elsewhere. I ended up finding this little beauty. A Perdomo Factory Tour Maduro torpedo. This cigar became my first single cigar purchase, my first torpedo, and my first cigar that cost 8 dollars just for one cigar, all in one. After allowing it to sit unwrapped in my humidor for exactly 24 hours, it also became the very best cigar I have ever smoked. I can definitely say I am sold on Perdomo.165865

Haven't had that particular one, but Perdomo makes some pretty tasty, quality smokes. Definitely worth trying out some of their other offerings.

Just had my first Lot 23 the other day and would highly recommend it.

Someone will definitely correct me if I am wrong, but for nc's, at least the under $15 a piece ones, I don't think you really have to worry about fakes or scam sites.

A quick Google search will pull up the main, highly used vendors. You're pretty safe on nc's.

I'm a big fan of all the tapered head cigars. They just seem to be more comfortable in the mouth on 50+ rg smokes, and seem to have better flavor and smoke volume compared to the same cigar in a regular shaped vitola. I typically buy the tapered head version of any cigar its an option in.

My buddy @Dylantaylor059 is a big fan of perdomo, he can’t believe I’ve never tried one but definitely looks like I need to. We actually talked about that tonight at our herf. Just one of the brands I’ve never explored.

I started out getting the sampler packs and they generally were full of sub-optimal sticks, despite the descriptions. I got a lot better mileage putting together my own "sampler packs" of various singles. It was doing that that helped me really zero in on what kinda cigars I liked.

It's really strange but I just can't get into Perdomo. Everything I've smoked has been a disappointment. Different smokes for different folks!!
It definitely happens to everyone I think.

Used to love them, but now I just can't get into the My Father smokes anymore. Just don't do it for me.

Also why I take reviews and general comments on smokes with a grain of salt since everyone has different tastes and favorites.

I typically don't pay much attention unless I see a fair number of good comments on a particular Cigar, or see it posted in the daily smoke type threads regularly

The key to reviews is to follow people that have similar tastes. There are two reviewers I tend to like Katman and Jiunn Liu with Developing Palates. If they like a cigar I'll normally give it a try. Lots of others I read and take their opinions into consideration but I find these two usually have palates similar to mine.

Cool, thanks.

I'll check them out as online reviews are part of my buying selection process along with my forums and (I know some people think they are biased) Cigar Aficionados reviews.

Comments, reviews and posts on my forums carry the most weight with me in my process.

II think similar palates means identifying flavors the same way I do. If I like the flavors they identify and can accept their opinions on complexity, body, etc then I should like the cigar.

For some reason I never taste the various flavors described in most reviews. Only ever detect wood, earth, leather or mustyness is all.

No idea why.

So i just go of the general opinion and final score if there is one

Perdomo 10th anniversary champagne was one of my favorites until recently. Very malty/yeasty tastey smoke, but I stopped purchasing because it seemed to have lost that flavor characteristic.
