A Razorback lost in Texas land
Woke up to this news today. Sad.
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
You have to ask what they can do? Tobacco is a low value crop until it's rolled (or many, many years aged) so spending a lot of money for fire supression that would probably ruin the crop anyway doesn't make economic sense. Smaller warehouses might be an option but I'm curious what that would do to labor costs and how humidity control and air circulation around the curing tobacco would be affected. So in the last year, William Ventura, Plasencia, and Fuentes have lost factories or warehouses to fire. Maybe it is time to update some industry practices?
Plasencia said their loss was "minor" precisely because they use facilities in Nicaragua and Honduras. Those facilities are split in to smaller buildings to minimize the impact of such an event. You have to ask what they can do? I guess the conspiracy theory would be to burn the bad tobacco and say you lost a bunch of good stuff so noe the prices have to increase.
Can anyone say Angels Share?
I would guess the Fuentes are properly insured. And it seems their prices have been increasing the last few years.
With fire wouldn't it be Devil's share? Can anyone say Angels Share?

I'm not sure how it will effect the MSRP, but expect secondary market prices to increase. For those than can recall last time this happened to fuente, did prices increase?
