Tipping is contingent upon good or bad service. The better service I get, the better tip I give. And reverse for bad service. With restaurants charging service charges now, that screws the tipping.
At that point I'll just stay home and make my own dinner. If you go someplace nice tipping can be close to the cost of the meal
You should tip
the bartender if you have a drink while waiting to be seated
the Maitre d if you have a special request for your table
the Sommelier if he helps you select a bottle of wine
then there is the waiter, his/her assistants and the bartender again if you order drinks
lets not forget the valet if you don't park yourself
Ditto. My wife has worked bars and restaurants most of her life. We take care of people that take care of us. Simple as that.I don't mind tipping despite the impression my last comment might have given.

You know, with all the spoils of war from WWII, you would think someone would have brought back a decent beer recipe. The only problem was you could only order beers in French at the stadium.
Taste buds weren't invented until after Samuel Adams came on the market.Y
