I'm glad you've chosen to brew. I've been brewing for about a year now and LOVE it. There's nothing like cracking open one of you're own brews and sharing them with friends. It really isn't hard to make great beer....
I'd suggest find a local home brew shop. You'd be surprised by how many there are. Talk to the manager there and tell him what you want to do. They've done it a billion times and are usually very nice and willing to help. I'd suggest buying a beginners kit. This should come with (at least):
- 2 plastic buckets (about 6 gal) with at least one lid- one for fermenting and one for bottling
- an air lock
- spicket for bottling bucket
- bottling kit (capper, filler, hose)
- hydrometer
- sanitizer
- auto-siphon
You should be able to find a kit like this for about $120. When I bought my first kit, I also bought a 6 gallon glass carboy for secondary fermentation. If you're serious about brewing, I'd suggest getting one. You'll also need a thermometer and timer.
For your first batch, I'd buy an ingredient kit. Start off with an IPA or something. You'll find there are different levels of kits, some for beginners, some for novice, and some for pros. I started with novice and think you should be able to as well. The kit should include liquid malt extract, yeast, sugar, hops, and (depending on the recipe) grains to steep. Hope this helps. If you have any questions let me know brother. When your batch is done, we can swap!
Good luck and have fun!!!
