It did pick up a bit towards the end! The blending would make sense...I thought it was due to how short the stick was getting (I smoked it till my fingers were burning)...but niw that you mention it...it never got hot. Great stick again and thanks for the opportunity! Nick

My Sultan Review

As others have commented on the cigar gives off a wonderful smell of freshly cut hay or dried grass. The cigar itself is very light brown with a few prominent veins.

The cigar started off a bit uneven for me but that was probably due to the light wind and the matches I used to light it. Although the uneven burn was an annoyance, it didn't get worse as the cigar was smoked. The cigar didn't canoe on me. Flavors in the first third were mild tobacco and wood.

The second third continued as the first but here I picked up a hint of caramel in with the tobacco flavors.

As the cigar came into the last third the flavors started to pick up a notch. This is the part of the cigar I enjoyed the most. Definitely started to pick up flavors of white pepper and cloves.

I want to thank Yan and Shuckin's for giving me the opportunity to try this cigar! It was an enjoyable experience.

Sorry for the delay in doing this review, Ron and Yan. Life and kids have kept me busy and haven’t had much time to smoke lately other than on the golf course. Smoked this yesterday morning on the course with my dad for Father’s Day.

Disclaimer – this is my first review and I’m really not good at picking up and describing flavors.

Appearance – very nicely constructed cigar with some small veins and an elegant looking band.

Pre-light – snipped with the Palio and it had a nice draw so I fired it up standing on the first tee with a cup of coffee.

Impression - I found this to be a very mild cigar with a grassy/earthy flavor with no spice/pepper. Flavor was very consistent throughout and didn’t seem to change much. Ash held pretty well, even being a bit flaky. There was a fair amount of smoke present and no relights were required, which is saying a lot as I left it unattended several times. It was also a bit windy and the burn stayed razor sharp until about the last third, which says a lot about its construction. Probably not a cigar I’d smoke again, but think my dad would really like it, as he enjoys mild cigars. Thanks to Ron and Yan for the opportunity to try a new cigar.

Firstly, let me apologize for not getting my review up in a timely fashion.
That being said, I sort of did it on purpose. I wanted to give the stick ample time to rest
after what I am sure was an arduous journey to my door. So, with the apology and disclaimer,
let's see what we have here.

First Impression:

It's a good looking cigar with a light brown, slighty oily wrapper that has some
moderate tooth when you examine it closely. There are no soft spots or bulges, and the cigar is fairly
firmly packed but not heavy in the hand at all. I can't say that I'm very fond of the band, but I'm not
going to smoke it, so no big deal.

Pre Light:

The wrapper is giving me a light barnyard smell, which is almost always a good thing.
I moisten the tip and give it a V-cut, which doesn't do any harm to the cap at all. For me, that's
one more indication of a well-constructed cigar. The unlit draw gives me sweet tobacco, and some
green-grass kind of taste, which I'm honestly not particularly fond of.

1/3:

The foot toasted up perfectly, and the cigar lit right up effortlessly. It's putting out
what I would call a moderate amount of smoke, and I let it breathe on the ashtray for a minute
before taking my first real draw. The first draw gives me some sweet tobacco taste, along with some
light oak, and green hay, that taste I'm not particularly fond of. It reminds me quite a bit of an organic
Verdadero smoke that I really didn't end up liking very much. I decide to let it rest in the
ashtray for another couple of minutes to see if that goes away. Thankfully, after one more draw,
it did. About an inch in, the taste is sweetening up a bit, and that green grassy taste has been
replaced by sweet tobacco, that same light oak, some light cinnamon, and a bit of lemon grass. I'm picking
up a bit of creaminess on the finish, which at this point is pretty short, but okay. The burn is perfectly
razor sharp and straight, and the ash is solid and white, displaying the tiny dots left behind by tooth.
It holds on for about an inch and a half before falling. I would describe the body as mild,
maybe barely medium, and I'm starting to enjoy this cigar.

2/3:

The cigar is still burning and drawing perfectly, and some hazelnut has crept into the finish, which
is getting a bit longer. Light oak, some lemon grass, and cinnamon are the predominant things
I am picking up now. I'm being reminded a bit of Thai food that has been prepared by an experienced
chef who knows when to stop adding spices. A bit of caramel seems to be going in and out of the profile,
and I'm getting some very nice plain old sweet tobacco to go along with the rest of the flavors. The
burn is still absolutely perfect, although the cigar is ashing itself about every 3/4 inch now. At one point
I did get a little bit of slight flowering at the end of the ash, but the burn line has remained razor-sharp
the whole time. I think my only critique at this point is that if the cigar was just a bit more firmly
packed, the finish would probably be amazing, although it's still quite good.

3/3:

This stick is really starting to pick up now in the flavor department. I'm still getting
plenty of light oak and cinnamon, and the lemon grass and sweet Thai-food-like spices are seriously
starting to pick up now. The finish has taken on a very distinct hazelnut quality, and has gotten
fairly long and very enjoyable. I'm finding that even as the spice picks up, it retains a gentle
quality that makes this a really enjoyable mild bodied cigar. At this point I had to go inside
and get my chicken marinating for dinner. I left the cigar on my ashtray for almost ten minutes
and when I returned, we picked up right where we had left off. No re-light, no touch-up. This, to
me is a mark of a well constructed and properly humidified cigar. Taking it all the way to the
nub, the spices picked up still more, and the finish got nice and long, giving me that hazelnut
that I really enjoy. I took it all the way down to my fingers, and it never got hot or tarred
up on me.

Wrap it up:

When I got that green grassy taste to start out with, I was a bit worried about how
this was going to turn out. After it left, I ended up with a very nice mild bodied smoke that
I really enjoyed. Construction and burn were top-notch (band notwithstanding), and I ended up
really enjoying the thing. This could easily be a go-to smoke when I'm in the mood for something
milder. I kinda wish I had smoked in the morning with some coffee. I may have to get some
more of these. Thanks for the opportunity guys!

This wasn't done completely on purpose, but i've received a bunch of singles over the last few months and it got lost in the bunch.
That being the case, this cigar had been given 3 months of downtime.... So here we go!
The wrapper is very oily, sports a rich brown color that’s mottled with large, medium, and small veins showing. I also notice some green sunspots but it doesn't really take away from the cigar. It’s very firm and has just a slight bit of ‘give’ when I squeeze it testing it for soft spots. I sniff the wrapper and I get a green tea scent. I sniff the foot and I get hand sweet grass, and little pepper.

On the cold draw I get hay, grass, light pepper and spice.

I lit the foot and get leather, rich tobacco, and faint pepper in the middle of my tongue. The draw has just a slight bit of resistance and is perfect. Halfway through the first inch, cedar rears its head along with light pepper in both a puff of this stogie and the retrohale. The smoke is oily and the finish is long. The burn line isn’t perfect, but there’s no need for a touch up. A couple more puffs and the cedar finish lingers very nicely on the palate. The burn line has all but corrected itself and the cedar marries well with the rich tobacco and nuts that I taste. The ash is very firm and is the color of “sand” and a “grey concrete.” The smoke production is as effortless as the draw! The cedar and nuts profile almost tastes like a “peanut butter and jelly sandwich”! The ash fell off after the first third.

2nd 3rd: Leather, cedar, nuts, and a much more pronounced pepper dance together beautifully at the beginning of the second 3rd. the body of this stick has inched up to the med-full range. It’s kind of ironic because I was just saying to myself how this stick was medium at best. I believe this stage has the makings of a great morning stick. Notes of coffee have weaved their way in as well.

Entering the final 3rd, cedar and rich tobacco dominate the palate. Quite a transition from the cedar and pepper flavors that I get from the retrohale. Though it’s apparent that the ligero was saved for the final 3rd because the pepper is now strong on the finish, along with nuts and rich tobacco.

Smoking Time: 46 Minutes

In Retrospect: I must say that this cigar "snuck up" on me at the end, I really didn't have a clue that it was going to turn into a med-full bodied stick at all. And I mean who can argue with smoking a "Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich"? Thank you Yan for making such great product, and thank you Ron for facilitating this experience.

I have already reviewed this cigar on another forum but it should be repeated on this as well. I let this cigar rest for a good period and wanted to give it enough of a chance to fulfil its destiny. ( smoked the first of July )

Well, tonight was cigar review night for me and this was my second cigar to review and it has been resting quite nicely in my humidor since I received it...at a nice 65%RH. From just looking at this cigar I am impressed with it...love the band and the construction is really good. Whoever rolled this sucker knew what they were doing as it was neither too tight or loose. The wrapper had no flaws and is really nice to look at and no soft spots whatsoever.

Cutter -- Boston V cutter
Drink -- Drambuie
Lighter -- LGC Soft Flame
Construction -- Excellent
Burn -- Razor Sharp

1/3 After the initial light up it gives off tons of smoke,,the draw is effortless and if I did draw on it like I usually draw on my cigars I get a ton of smoke so I needed to ease up a bit or send clouds of smoke over to the neighbors where they might call the Fire Dept. The first inch is very easy and I was a bit worried it might be a bit too mild as it was very mellow and light. Retro haling was so easy I thought i wasn't blowing any smoke out at all but when I saw another cumulous cloud billow out of my nose I was almost shocked to see so much and not even a slight tingle of my nose hairs. Going into the 2/3 third it started to gain some much needed strength...light leather and I have to admit to tasting some Rosado as Isaac talked about.

2/3 I'm finally getting that mild to medium strength that I like...the smell of the smoke is really nice. This is the kind of "second hand" smoke I think people would love to smell. It's very good on the smell factor and is very pleasant. I've come to expect this kind of smell from Indonesian tobacco and the burn is still solid. This isn't a complex cigar at all but it is very good and a nice change from what I usually smoke.

3/3 This last third is still what I call a mild to medium cigar and would be perfect for that morning to mid afternoon cigar with a good cup of coffee. Something strong like Espresso would pair almost perfectly with this and had I known I would have smoked it tomorrow morning instead of my usual late at night smoking time.

Thanks again for the opportunity of trying this out. I've got to believe that this cigar if "beefed" up a bit more with the flavors being a bit stronger would be something I'd buy and put into my regular rotation. I have to say that this cigar is a good 7.5 out of 10....if you can find a way to make this blend into a full bodied cigar I'd say I'd be a regular buyer.
