  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

To tell you the truth I actually really like this plan. There are exactly the same amount of dress boxes as lighter/cutter packages. For me if I did buy the lighter/cutter and couldn't find a dress box I would be really disapointed. If they don't sell this way then you can open them up to everyone else. Also as a retailer I wouldn't expect to get a repeat customer from the monster series. I only buy from b&m's and I still, unfortunately haven't reorder from the guys that were nice enough to help me out last year.
I would bite on the combo too if I thought the lighter/cutter was nice enough to pick up. Back to my whole, they look more like toys than something I would seriously carry around. Just because it says Tatuaje on it doesnt make it nice (my TWA classes have been paying off I guess) JMHO

Wouldn't you like to know?

I agree that it is not something that I wanted but it is out there and the retailers that have it need to move it. I also think that the unlucky 13 are unlikely to gain regular customers from this offering so I don't think including another item at MSRP is a good way to for them to make some extra. Unfortunately I think that there are many industries where there is not enough of something to go around so in the end it comes down to reg customers and those that are willing to spend the extra. Not saying it is right just that I understand why they are doing it. I also think it would be very hard to sell the cutter to someone who did not get a dress box. I could see getting upset with a store saying you had to buy both if you were a regular customer who spent $500 a month there.

Yeah, there is no such thing as SCHIP on any of Pete's stuff, he absorbed it so prices wouldnt go up. You should be paying msrp + taxes or shipping. 200 was a good price though considering they are not easy to get.

Whatever the case may be there will be plenty of the cigars to go around especially at that size. Not a popular size so it better be a dam good cigar to even hope to sell half of the stock after the coffins. The coffins will most likely sell out. I'm going to hope to find the empty coffin later. I'm sure it won't be a problem since I was able to acquire a Frank coffin. May have to trade my second to get it but we'll see. Those retailers that want to charge ridiculous prices and only in packages...well good luck as there are plenty of these cigars to pass up on those. The Dracs and Boris still pop up and at retail sometimes. To each their own but I know for a fact that I will come up on these without needing an unlucky 13 b&m's waiting list whether through the fine brothers here or just my luck. I know I went crazy last year and paid well over retail for some thinking I wouldn't find any later but I ended up having to pass up quite a bit because I already got ripped. Long story short don't get worked up over the hype and if you're in it for the cigars no need to worry. If you're paying SCHIP for your Face's you got ripped. 21,658 total Face cigars vs 16,900 dracs.

Yea. They also offered me two other packages that included one or two sticks, along with other cigars and some gear. All seemed over priced and I was not interested as soon I as figured out that they were not selling the boxes by themselves.

On another note, I got a call on Friday from another of the 13 - they offered me (and I bought) a 10ct box. I was however disappointed that they charged local taxes when I am not from that state - ended up costing me $175 after $15 for shipping.
Were they adding the 75% NY state tobacco tax into that price or just trying to totally screw you?

They were not in NY, so probably trying to screw me. But, what can I say? I bent over and took it!
It was about 23% higher than MSRP, and tax in that state is 10%, so my guess is that they marked the prices up a couple bucks per stick as well.

One of the 13 is calling now - $600 for the coffin combo. I said, "No thanks."
Not trying to bash or anything like that, but maybe it would be in the best interest of BOTL to know who is doing this. Clearly they don’t have the best interest of aficionados in mind.

If I may ask this question, whats everyone getting these boxes for?
At first I thought you meant “why?” as opposed to “how much?” lol. I was like “dude, seriously? Where have you been?!” Then the light bulb kicked on.

To each their own but I know for a fact that I will come up on these without needing a waiting list whether through the fine brothers here or just my luck.
FYI, the waiting list is simply an open list of people who (like yourself) desire to have them. I am not moderating or initiating transactions, the buyers can simply choose from the list who they wish to trade with. It’s an effort to make it much easier to acquire the sticks by those ISO them. The list might help you out, just sayin…

I was however disappointed that they charged local taxes when I am not from that state - ended up costing me $175 after $15 for shipping.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt, they may or may not be a local retailer who does little business on the internet and are not accustomed to (or may not know how) reporting transactions conducted out of state. Or, they may be ripping you… But I figured I might give them the benefit of the doubt.

What is this crap? $600-$800 for a box and a cutter and lighter? Thats nothing short of complete disrepect for the community.

If dealers are going to be price gouging consumers, Pete should be made aware of it. I think it is terrible to take advantage of Pete's fanbase and could hurt his rep for futher runs. I just think its a shame:frownno:

Gentlemen,

As most of us saw last year, retailers will do what they want when they want with what they want. This is not Pete's problem nor the way he would "like" things to happen. But, like many other short run products, these things happen.

Most of you know that I had gotten all wound up in last years release only to feel like a douchebag when all was said and done. I learned my lesson the hard way.

Bottom line is, if a retailer pisses you off, don't buy from them. Don't misdirect your issues with retailers towards the manufacturers. They don't control private businesses.

Just my .02.

Its the place in NY that is doing the cutter and lighter package.
+1

I drove to the shop yesterday and he was kind enough to sell me a box w/o the cutter combo since I drove 45+ minutes. I was going to purchase a few singles, I have no need for and lacking the funds for the package, but I lucked out.

What I can say, is the guy was very nice and he's got a real nice looking shop with a good selection.

Well said. I thought Pete did a very nice job of releasing more monsters this year to satisfy more people.
