Who's got one? Picked up a Kindle 3 recently and just finished my first book on it. I didn't have any issues at all adjusting to reading on the Kindle and I really like the fact that I can now jump right into another book that's already loaded and know that when I'm done there I've got a few more waiting in the wings for me. I just love the idea of being able to carry around an entire library with me. Of course that means shelling out for some of my old favorites at some point so I can have them on the Kindle. Great battery life. It's been just over a week of mixed WiFI and no-WiFI usage along with a few hours of using the light built into the case and I'm down to half charge. I probably turned WiFi off about half way through the week and I suspect, as the battery is supposed to last a month without using WiFi, that the use of the built in light has a pretty big effect on draining the battery.

I was really holding out for an iPad, but I just couldn't justify the cost....er, more to the point, I couldn't get the wife to agree to the cost. :stickbeat Especially when we were able to get an e-reader for each of us for less than the cost of the iPad. Someday. But until them, I'm quite happy.

Who else has one? Your thoughts?

I shelled out for a first gen kindle right after the release. I'm still very happy with it. The first couple books I've read on it felt a little weird, but after that it became a very natural experience.

I love my Color Nook. When I was looking, it seemed the Kindle and the Nook were the way to go. I chose the regular nook and then returned it to get the color. I love the touch screen and at least I get the feel that I am turning the pages.

I got a Sony Reader for Christmas a few years ago. I love it, but when the prices come down a little I'm going to upgrade to a color Nook.
Have a sony ereader from way back also. Nook color was on sale for $200 on ebay (through Barnes and Noble) and I think will be on sale until the 3rd.

I have the Kindle 3 and like it. I travel for work across the country quite a bit, and the Kindle takes up a lot less space than the books I usually carry.

That being said, I still prefer a regular ol' book to the e-readers.

Yeah... I saw that on w00t.com. Still too rich for my blood at the moment. I figure by the time I can actually afford it I'll be able to find one for about half that...

I have the Kindle 2 and absolutely love it. Don't know what I'd do without it actually, it's so much more convenient traveling when I don't have to lug several books around. The screen is so easy on the eyes compared to an iPad. I don't think the iPad is an adequate replacement for an e-reader if you are a serious reader...I see them as two completely different products that complement each other rather than compete with one another.

I get incredible battery life on the Kindle by turning the 3G/wifi off, makes a really big difference.

Also, if you don't use it already, check out the software program "Calibre", it's great for managing your library and converting different file formats into Kindle-friendly formats (e.g., converting pdf files into the Kindle format).

I have a Nook Color, and I love it. It is a different animal than the Kindle, though. It's really an Android tablet geared for the ereader market.

A little off topic... but I was reading about rooting Nooks just this morning. How's it compare to say, an iPad? I'm guessing the iPad has better graphics hardware...

Rooting the Nook is pretty easy, there's plenty of good instruction out there. Check out Nookdevs.com.
The display is amazing. After seeing the iPad and the Nook Color side by side, I'd give the Nook the edge. Obviously the size is smaller (that's a plus for me).

It should probably have it's own thread, since, like I said, the Kindle has it's own strengths - depends on what you are looking for.
