With the top open. The Spanish Cedar frame on the inside of the top fits into the opening when it's closed. It used to be made of oak, but the oak was rotted. Inside that frame I want to put art glass, or maybe a map, or cigar bands under glass.

Spanish Cedar Lining. Just like the top, the door has a frame on the inside of it. This used to have zinc on it. Maybe I should do somenting out of copper sheet?

Underside of Top. The space inside the cedar frame needs something like a map of Cuba.

I filled in the spaces between the blocking with 1-1/2" of rigid insulation, then covered it with a vis-queen vapor barrier. Not "perfectly sealed" but it should help.

Icebox with back taken off. Built a poplar frame for the inside to get the cabinet square.

Ice Box Top Compartment. This is where the block of ice would go. The compartment was lined with zinc, dented and not square. I ended up removing all of the zinc and the secondary framing.

Ice Box. I took the zinc off of the inside of the top lid, and the inside of the door. I'll be replacing it with Spanish Cedar.

Ice Box - Back Side of Door. I removed the lath that you see on the back of the door. Underneath the lath was either asbestos or horsehair insulation that was sewn between two wax paper sheets.

Ice Box Top Dis-assembled. The two smaller pieces of oak were covering the two holes in the top itself as some form of decoration. This is where I might replace with glass, or remove the center part for one larger opening. Or I might return it to its orginal form.
