• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

The cigar that most pleasantly surprised you in 2015

Almost forgot the Oliva El Cobre. Was gifted one of these from a BOTL and was really impressed. At under $100 a bundle these are hard to beat for the price.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Isn't the slower flow rate better at cooling though? Something about more time to absorb the heat as it passes through the chiller.

Which cigar didn't live up to your expectations in 2015?

I understand where your coming from on this and personally I have mixed feelings about it at times. Just saying Tats are known to age well especially the TAA blends. The last '12 I had was insanely good.

Which cigar didn't live up to your expectations in 2015?

You guys saying the Tat TAA were a let down gotta let those babies rest. You'll be wishing you had more in a few years if you've liked the past TAA releases. Caldwell Last Czar was a real let down. I also have mixed feelings about the Sobremesa. I absolutely love the profile through the 1st...

    New Year's resolutions?

You can definitely do it dude! Over the past 2 years I cut 30 lbs, bulked up 20, then cut another 30 lb. Just gotta get that diet on point and hit the weights consistently. My goal is adding as much solid lean mass as I can. And to also roll more cigars this year.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

I had a friend help me make my own IC from 1/2" copper tubing I got at Home Depot. Wrapped it around a dive tank to get the shape right and my buddy did the soldering. Hooked it up with quick connects so it's easy to set up/breakdown. My latest upgrade was getting a submersible pump so I'm able...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

^ nailed it. Make sure its the "Free" version and use warm/hot water so it fully dissolves. Stuff works serious magic on carboys too. I use 1/2 to 5gal water, 1/2 as in half the 1 mark not half the actual scooper.

Forgot an important piece of info.... oxygen based cleaners are a big no go on aluminum. So no Oxyclean unless you go stainless. Just wanted to put that out there.

All your choice obviously. The ball valve really comes in handy though. You can also mark me down for the hot water rinse crew.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

I was about to post this.... http://www.morebeer.com/products/14-gallon-stainless-brew-kettle.html But the one you posted is like twice the size for 1/3 the price. If you can actually snag that thing for under $100 that's a steel!!.....see how I did that lol. Herve brings up a good point too...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

I'm a SS guy now but I started with aluminum. If you use Bar Keepers Friend, sold cheap at Home Depot or the grocery store, your SS will always look brand new. Takes off rust, beer stone, and everything else plus passivates the steel again. Budweiser kegs can also be converted for cheap if...

    LAS MAREAS (Crowned Heads)

@JonHuber I really like the direction you went with this blend. Nice transitions in flavor, body and strength. Robust yet nuanced, this blend really tells a story as you go through the thirds. Also leaves the palate clean which is nice for those of us that smoke more than one stick in a sitting...

Turned out to be a false alarm lol. Honestly probably could use a little more to deepen the red. This is exactly why you RDWHAHB!

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

It's a bit early to fully tell but I'm already thinking I used a touch too much roast. Like 1oz too much. Looks more nut brown than red or amber. If 1 damn oz of roast barley makes me totally botch the color on this I'm going to be a little pissed lol.

Alright getting this done today no excuses. If the recipe turns out close to what Im aiming for we'll probably end up brewing a bigger batch for Paddys day. Irish Red OG - 1.051 FG - 1.010 IBU - 22.4 SRM - 15.4 ABV - 5.2% Yeast - Nottingham Fermentation - 17 days @ 62f, 28days @38f Grain...

    Jerky

I make a real nice teriyaki jerky from a homemade marinade I put together. My favorite though is my mojo pork jerky. I'm the only one I know that makes it and it's killer. Store bought stuff sucks.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

It depends how far off you are IMO. A couple points can be made up by adding 15mins to the beginning(before bittering addition) of the boil. But that's just if your a few points off. Usually this is just to make up for accidentally adding too much water to the mash or sparge. Not so much to make...
