• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    I hate the TSA

I fly a lot, and my standard practice is to pack a $4 Ronson Jet-lite in the Otter Box case made for Zippos (fits perfectly) and to put a Bic in my carry-on. Both are permitted under TSA rules, and I carry a print-out of the latest regs from the TSA website in case there is a question. If I...

What is your stand by cigar?

It used to be maduro Fuentes and Edges, but both have changed in recent years, so they're off my rotation. Now it's maduro Genuine Counterfeit Cuban Pre-Embargo 1958 Edicion Limitadas (made by Perdomo and sold by JR), Holt's Connoisseurs (made by DPG), and DPG Blue Labels and Series JJ's.

    Cigar Tins

That is definitely one of the better ones. By and large, though, I don't like these. They burn too hot, and they generally don't taste great. I'd rather buy decent but inexpensive robustos or petite coronas and toss them partly smoked if I don't have time to finish.

    Cigar Ponderings

AFAIK, Bic's use butane, just like our torches. Canned butane has a fairly unpleasant smell, too. I always carry a small Bic as a back-up in case my regular lighter runs out of gas, and it's often my only lighter when I fly. I have never noticed any kind of problem, odor or otherwise, other...

    Lost My Palio...

Sorry about that, man --- Ah feel yoah pain. :sadcry: BTW, did you look underneath the car seats? A lot of times, that's where things that I have lost seem to end up. On the bright side, now there are a whole bunch of finishes you can choose from if you have to replace it. :applause:

    Oliva Blue bands

Well, maybe the blend never changed, but the flavor sure did! :scratchhe

    Oliva Blue bands

    Yup, what he said.

    Thompson Cigar

BTW, Thompson's humidors suck as badly as their store brand cigars.

    Finally! A cigar i DIDN"T like

Remember: NEVER judge a cigar based on a single stick. Cigars are made by hand out of natural materials, and they are vulnerable to environmental conditions. No matter how good a manufacturer's quality controls are, there is simply too much variation from stick to stick to view any one smoke...

    Thompson Cigar

Consider yourself lucky. Buying cigars from Thompson's is a fate worse than death! They saved you from yourself. Never try that again. :nono:

    Get Your Tatuaje Shirts!

Just like the cigars: REALLY nice, but a touch pricey. :sadpace:

    Xeto Cutter

Yup, what he said. I guess if you want something different and are tired of lighting your cigars with rolled up $100 bills, it would be worth buying. Personally, I'd buy 3 Palios for that money, instead.

    Vitola trends

What's old is new. Lanceros are pretty much what used to be called panatelas, and they were the most popular size (and candela was the most popular wrapper) in the US back in the '50's and '60's. And yes, I am old enough to both remember them and have smoked 'em back then.

    Most prized cigar?

RyJ EL. But don't tell anyone that I have one. :nodlaugh:

    Bundles, seconds, premiums?

I don't know if you have any near you, but the b&m operations of the large internet retailers carry almost the same inventory as their internet counterparts.

    Newbie, Assistance Requested

Check out the various samplers from the better internet dealers, like JR, Cigars International and Holt's. Avoid Thompson's like the plague!!! Read the descriptions, and just order some. Keep a log of what you liked, what you didn't and why. That will help you refine your future selections...

    Bundles, seconds, premiums?

I don't keep track, and I don't pay much attention. I'll try anything, and if I like it, I'll buy more. I have everything from Fuente limited releases like Anejos to Holt's Hefdogs, and I smoke 'em all. Smoke what you like, and like what you smoke. :peace:

153,000 cigars, one whisky every day, 715,400 ciggies

    That guy's my new hero!

    Favourite small cigars?

I generally don't like small cigars, but on those rare occasions when I smoke them, I like maduro Fuente Cuban Coronas (5.25 X 45) or Petit Coronas (5 X 38). I would rather smoke a robusto and waste some of it than smoke a narrow gauge cigar, but JMO YMMV.

    Colibri Table lighter question

Sad but true. And then you end up with a Colibri, which means it is likely to break within a few months.
