• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Butane source and non-torch lighter?

I have a couple of soft flame butane lighters (not counting Bic's :smokingbo ). My Nibos look like the classic Dunhill/Cartier/Dupont roller lighters (but they don't ping when you open them). They work great, but they aren't windproof. I also have some Zippos with Thunderbird inserts made by...

Convert bedroom into cigar room with walk-in humidor?

I don't think I'd do that. I'd be concerned than anything other than Spanish Cedar will have too strong an aroma or the wrong one. It might smell fine in a sniff test, but remember, your sticks are going to be exposed to this stuff for years and years...

    Tat White Question

A friend of mine sent me a sampler of Tat Whites. Tried one and hated it. Put the rest away and came back a year later. It was a whole different cigar. It will never be the best Tat on the market, but with a bit of age, they are really good and nicely priced.

    Colibri Firebird Lighter = Garbage

IMO, Colibris suck. Period. However, the Firebird seems to work OK, as long as you know the secret: Press the ignitor SLOWLY so that the gas starts to escape before you hit the point where the spark is initiated. If that doesn't work, throw the piece of crap away and go buy a decent lighter...

    CIGAR RIGHTS OF AMERICA Announced

FYI, there's also this group: http://www.smokersclubinc.com/ and probably others. It is absolutely time that we fought back and actually did something besides pissing and moaning to each other and our spouses. What's the line from Network? I'm mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take it any more...

Question on cigar recommendation from a friend

A lot depends on what he thinks of as not "kinda expensive." Most of the cigars I smoke tend to run in the $5-6 range, so I am guessing that won't be enough of a difference from $7 to be important to him. Gisperts are a nice, inexpensive cigar. One of my current favorites in the $2-3 range is...

    Help Needed

I think guillotine and Palio for the cutter. The Grainger torch is a bit, er, big for most people's pockets. If you decide on a Xikar lighter, I would stay away from the Executive just because it runs out of fuel very quickly and its finish isn't exactly durable. Personally, I have run...

    Help Needed

If you want to go the scissors route, I think the Swiss Army Knife (aka SAK) from Wenger is the better choice. They come with red plastic or brushed stainless steel handles. The stainless looks cooler and is more durable, but it's also more expensive and heavier... There is no free lunch.

    Help Needed

Palio cutter from cigarmony.com, all the way. Even though it's a guillotine style cutter, it is far better than whatever he has used in the past. As to the lighter, Xikars are generally very good and have a lifetime warranty from a company with superb customer service, so it's hard to go...
