I've said this before - but this is just a reminder. I'll be breaking BOTL over time in order to get it into a far better place. Just be patient if you can't reach us! We'll be back
The most important aspect of getting started is..... to stop thinking about it and get started. You don't need anything except tobacco. Order a starter kit and give it a try. It's great fun. You don't need molds. I used a rolling pin to flatten my wrappers and a pizza cutter to trim my...
I did read about the chemical processes that take place when tobacco ferments, but that was a few years ago and I don't remember much. Whatever is going on produces ammonia as a byproduct. That is why we smell it. It it is produced and then goes off into the surrounding air. That's what I...
I tried a few methods that I read about such as using a crock pot with water in it to provide heat and humidity to an insulated box. I did all sorts of things but could never keep the humidity high enough for some reason. I ended up using a box made of Styrofoam and a light bulb for heat. I...
I grew my own a few years ago, just for shits and giggles. It was lots of fun. I fermented all my harvest but i kept a bit aside to do a comparison. The unfermented was terrible! I can't imagine smoking unfermented tobacco, but then again that's just my opinion.
One thing I've always...
I also freeze EVERY cigar before it goes into my humidor. It's a simple step for complete piece of mind.
I would like to know how many manufacturers freeze their cigars before shipping.
I agree with Navyvet. Use a water-based varnish and no stain. Let it dry for a week or so. The other option is no finish at all. That way the walnut will absorb moisture and slowly release it when needed. I don't believe walnut will give off any flavors. But the varnish will look better.
Our Canadian summers are are wonderful ... but they are followed by our Canadian winters so there's lots to get done while the weather is good. This is "cigar weather" and it doesn't last all year. It's time to smoke and enjoy and not so much time at the computer.
I'm not doubting what you're saying but it seems odd that Camacho would use a different glue on the Liberty line than they use on all the others. Is it rolled at a different factory or should all Camacho cigars be suspect?
As I understand it, the chart shows that if in a closed environment (no drain hole, no Boveda) you set the RH to 70% at 70 F and then you change the temperature, the RH would also change. Let's say the temperature dropped to 65 F. Then the RH would read 83% but the actual moisture in the...
This topic keeps coming up in different formats. The effects of temperature changes on RH is very difficult to get our head around. The attached chart is interesting. It shows the effects of temperature change on a "closed" environment, meaning there is no new moisture added or removed by media.
I've purchase lots of CC's at resort stores. Never had a fake, and never seen a glass top box. One thing that is interesting about Cuba is that you don't have to shop around to get the best price. The price is set by Habanos S.A. and it doesn't vary from store to store. Even the airports are...
It has been mentioned on this form a few times that to insure you get real CC's in Cuba that you should only go to official La Casa de Habano stores. There is a link that lists the locations http://lacasadelhabano.com/web/index.php/en/franchises/search-franchises
I have been to Cuba many times...
I'm wondering if anyone removes a cigar from the cellophane to inspect it at a B&M. It seems like a bit too much handling to be appropriate. I ask because I just bought a few sicks and I did look at them before purchasing but they were in cellophane. This makes it hard to see everything. One...
