• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Adventures in home rolling

How exciting! Did they have you change anything to your rolling style or did they just let you do your thing? Will you still use 'mojo' on your cigars?

    New Flavor Wheel Flavors

Had a pound of volado I threw in the dumper because it smelled of urine. Horse urine or possibly human urine not sure. Now that I think about it maybe it was donkey urine. Definitely NOT pony urine ( I like that). It all has certain uniqueness.

Watch your vein orientation. Start rolling at the tip of the leaf and roll toward the stem.

This is just as good as a cap and it's easier and faster. The flag is what matters.

The cap is on the cigar is for no other reason than to give it a finished look. Purely decorative. After all, you cut it off to smoke the cigar or you cut most of it off. So many times there is a small ring of the cap remaining that eventually comes off and gets caught in your mouth and you have...

    Newbie rolling

Looks much better! When you wrap the flag around the cigar you can add a little tension to it as you roll it making it tighter and cleaner. Caps come in different sizes depending on the ring size of the cigar. Your local plumbing supply has copper elbows that are perfect with a different size at...

    Mojo

I think you're right. Having just purchased some Pyrat rum for Mojo, I'm becoming more reluctant to pour it into the fuzz bowl of rotten pineapple and instead pour it in my belly. This stuff tastes really good. I hope there's some left by next week to put in the mojo.

    Mojo

Drew Estate is the King of flavored cigars. They, of any other manufacturer, do more 'mojoing' than anyone else.

A good quality HDPE mold runs around $100. Your molds are custom made. They are special. Especially these unique shapes you're doing. I don't know anywhere else you could get a custom mold made to order one at a time!! People should expect to pay more without question. Just a thought...if...

Traditionalist like the wood molds but I believe the plastic molds are stronger and more durable. Agree with Bliss that there is no difference in the moisture wicking properties so go with what you like. Don't go with the inexpensive wooden molds without the upper lip. They aren't as good. The...

To save the cost of using costly thicker material could you use the 1/2" HDPE top thickness and attach a flat board to it. You need to drill alignment holes anyway in the top... could you possibly attach via bolts or screws a flat board for the needed thickness. Once machined remove the wooden...

Here is a cost calculator for 'cut to size' HDPE blank sheet. I'm guessing at the size of a 4 cigar mold like the one shown. For example a bottom sheet 6" x 8" 1" thick is $21 Top sheet 6" x 8" 1/2" thick is $18...

A couple of the molds I have are CNC'd from blocks of high density polyethylene plastic. It would seem that it would be more agreeable to machining. Wood has a tendency to get a little 'fuzzy' at times depending on the grain.
