• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Looks like you're taking a leak behind the pole. o_O

    Newbie rolling

I roll in an air conditioned room and they dry out very quickly when left out in the open air. A simple trick is to have a small, slightly damp towel to cover the leaves that are waiting to be rolled.

How do you lay out your rolling table?

Your layout will be unique to your style. Just get started and the chips will fall into place. Your filler needs to be almost dry. Remember... if the cigar turns out poorly take it back apart and re-roll it. Don't accept the errors, correct them. Do it until you learn how to do it right.

    Very inexpensive marble cutting board

Sounds like it might work. Try it. Just keep an eye on it for any chipping that might occur.

I would NOT do Formica. It's not hard enough. The blade will cut/scratch the surface and leave little pieces of plastic. The best alternative would be to glue down a piece of smooth stainless steel. (not brushed) OR, better yet, get a piece of polished granite at a fabrication shop for little...

Don't feel bad. It's more than just blending. Padron controls the entire growing and fermenting process from seed to cigar. The tobacco they produce is very superior.

    The Ripe Stash

Interesting you should mention Jorge. I revisited this leaf myself yesterday! Having a pile of Jorge sweet smelling wrapper that I'm not going to use and try an experiment. Dunked them in a tub of water and shook them out. Let them sit out for a few hours and then rolled them into a ball to...

A mottled appearance is one thing but Greenish spots like this aren't water spots. Water spots are usually a whiter color.

Are all the wrappers ( I sent four or 5 full leaves) spotted like that or just that one? I just got up and inspected the cigars with a flash light and I can't find one that has ANY spots like that. Nor do I see spots on any of the remaining leaf I have left in the bag. I have nothing that looks...

I have to ask... is this the wrapper I sent you? It looks awful, like it has a freak'in disease. I have probably 60 cigars rolled in that wrapper and don't have one that looks like that.

It seems that the introduction of the Lieberman rolling machine helped greatly to promote the parejo shape and helped faze out the figurado. Cigars could be made in a cylinder shape faster using less skilled labor. It allows almost anyone to achieve the same results. Gets rid of craftsman and...

I found this in a quick search... You have two basic shapes... A parejo is a cigar that has straight sides and a rounded head. This description would apply to the majority of cigars made. On the other hand, a figurado is any shape other than a parejo. “Figurado” shapes with pointed ends...

Having switched over to hand rolling with no mold I find that these shapes to be the natural shape of the cigar. When rolling the bunch, the tobacco thins out at both ends causing the shape to taper. So it would seem fair to say that a perfectly tube shape is unnatural. It requires chopping off...

    Leaf Reviews

I'm flattered. Two that I sent were marked 'hand rolled' weren't exposed to any mold. Used paper on the binder only. The other cigars sat in a mold overnight. I like a longer press time on the binder. It makes for a good flat surface to put the wrapper on but none of them ever re-entered the...

This is a stainless steel surface that a lot of pro's use. FYI... if you can find a marble/granite countertop fabricator near you they have loads of scrap. The cut out for the sink makes a very nice rolling surface. A smooth non-porous surface helps a moist wrapper leaf to stick down and be...

A shit storm hit when I suggested to friends and family that they simply 'shut off the notification messages'. Everyone said... "why are you letting that bother you?" My wife said the suggestion was "cranky" of me. Just live with it, it's such a minor thing. First off, I wasn't upset or cranky...
