• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Cigar Molds Thread

Good job!! You could possibly use those as the master and make a reusable rubber mold and then pour a high strength plastic epoxy. Pop one out of the mold in an hour. Just a thought.

    Mojo

I see it's been a while since you purchased any. Didn't you hear...there's been a shortage on Pyrat rum due to cigar rollers making mojo from it. Yep. it's true.

Great!! Boring/smooth is good. Then you can blend your way upwards to what ever level of intensity you want.

    Mojo

I just picked some up... wow, if I'm not mistaken it was the second most expensive bottle on the shelf at $32. What ratio would you guess as far as pineapple juice to rum? TIA.

    Mojo

One more question... what rum did you use? There're so many different types.

    Mojo

Agreed. The cigar tobacco is naturally high in alkalinity. The addition of citric acid would help drop those numbers and smooth the tobacco. Pineapple is very high in citric acid and is probably the main reason for an improvement. How long do you let it ferment before using it? Did it improve...

    Mojo

Heck, rotten ass may be what we're looking for! The secrets of the mojo... The biggest thing I've learned doing my simplistic mojo's is that when trying to make tobacco sweet by adding sugar, after fermentation, is not a good thing. When any sugar product gets added the tobacco takes on a...

That's pretty interesting. I listened to a series just yesterday on NPR on the secret lives of plants. "The impression that plants don't do anything, that they just sit there, may be the result of time-scale prejudice; we are simply blind to actions that unfold over very long, drawn out, slow...

Huge improvement! Need to wrap a flag around the end so it doesn't unravel.

So instead of accepting a bad roll you ended up with a completely different cigar that was acceptable. This will accelerate your learning curve in a big way. Good job!

You're going to get much better. I have no doubt. Just take your time and think about the end result. Again, if the cigar comes out funky then don't be afraid to unroll it and re-do it and try to correct your mistakes from the first attempt.

    Pics of Your Sticks

Rolling an attractive, well constructed cigar certainly takes some talent. Having said that, lets not discourage others by having them believe it takes some sort of magical power to produce. It doesn't. Brain surgery is difficult, playing the violin is difficult, playing golf under par is...

If you can't roll a paper towel into a cigar then don't think you can roll tobacco into one. It's a good exercise to see if you can use real tobacco.

No, I press it overnight in the binder. The next day it holds it's shape and then put on the wrapper. I like it to have a soft edge. If you want a sharper edge put it back in the mold and press it for as long as you want.

Over night. Let it out too soon and it loses it's shape. I let all my bound cigars stay over night whether it's in a mold or paper. They hold their shape better and have a very smooth outer finish. I find this makes for a nice smooth wrapper.
