  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

    Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    That is a great explanation of RH. It is a concept that is difficult to get my head around. I was thinking that the environment was stable but I had forgot about the excess moisture that is available from the Boveda or other media. Thank's for setting me straight.

    I agree. So if you know that the RH is good at 65 degrees, and then the temp goes up to 80, everything will be fine if you just ignore the hygrometer reading at the elevated temperature. The actual moisture content of the air won't change, just the hygrometer reading will change.

    When this happens to me I wipe with alcohol (or vodka). I feel better knowing that the alcohol kills mold. It has never bothered my cigars to do this but it seems that most people here don't agree with me.

    I've been hearing that the Habasnos stores in Cuba seem to have a poor selection lately. I wonder if Habanos is beginning to stock pile inventory in the hope that the US market will become available.

    Your rolling is exquisite, but looking at the bunching I'm thinking that it may be a bit too loose. You know much more than I do about rolling so please don't take offense to my question but, do you think the draw on these will be too airy ?

    Hey BrewinHooligan, your cigars and your teaching are inspirational. I grew tobbacco and rolled cigars a few years ago. It was great fun but I never got anywhere near your level of proficiency. My question to you is, how many cigars do you have now? You must have a few tupperdors full.

    As I understand it, since 2005 Habanos has been freezing all cigars that they produce. I've purchased many cigars in Cuba and I trust their cigars more than many of the producers out there, but as I said, I freeze all cigars before they go into my humi.

    That's good advice. I freeze all cigars before they go into my winador, regardless of where they came from. A few days in the freezer doesn't hurt them at all as long as they are in a ziploc and the piece of mind it provides is priceless.

    My sister-in-law just got back from Cuba and brought me some Cuabas. I love these cigars. They are not the best tasting of the CC's but figurados are rare from Cuba and I love the look (and they taste pretty decent).

    There are many cigars that hit the market as inexpensive and turn out to be great cigars. They fly off the shelf and can be hard to find. I would think that the smart thing to do would be to use the same blend, change the size just a little bit and relabel it as a much more expensive cigar...
