• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Old humidors... and copper?

Copper was/is thought to have antimicrobial properties. It was observed that water contained in copper vessels or transported in copper conveyance systems was of better quality (little to no visible slime or biofouling formation) than water contained or transported in other materials. So the...

    New NewAir Humidor Model

You missed the point of the meaning behind their announcement. It's not about this model, type or capacity of this unit. It's about the product line direction of their humidor line by adding these specific features. They will eventually add these to all of the humidor product line.

    Humidification Beads

I went from beads to Boveda, too. I have a SensorPush in a very good wood humidor and I saw the data when I used beads. I had 65% beads, I saw that when I hydrated beads the humidity would spike-up a few points sometimes to 70% or slightly higher. Within a day or two the beads would level off...

How many flames is you preference 1, 2, 3, 4

I’m thinking picking up another (additional) lighter. Contemplating on one of the flat flame lighters. I have single, double and triple torches. All of the quads look like they could double as a soldering torch or a small welder in a pinch. I suppose you can get accustomed to managing the...

PerfecDraw Cigar Tool - my impressions

The Perfect Draw needs to fit in a pocket. A re-design using a telescoping shaft would be great for portability. A cigar, cutter, lighter and perfect draw and you’re all set.

    Calibrated?

I had to set the hygrometer and my SensorPush in their sides. With the hygrometers laying flat, the air doesn’t seem to be able to circulate enough. Try to lay on the side, get a bigger bag or get a Tupperware. For some reason Boveda sends a small zip bag in their calibration kits.

    these things are awesome

Agreed, you never used the word 'bad.' Rather, I accused any company that choose to used 'non quality materials' as making a bad product. Said company, would probably have an issue with profitability as a result of high warranty expenses. Of course, assuming they honored their lifetime warranty.

    these things are awesome

If you have a bad product and offer a warranty like Xikar, you would have extremely high warranty costs. It could cost more to fix than the original cost. Fixing something after it breaks is extremely high cost for labor and parts. Unless their profit margins on sales are 200% to 300%, only a...

    The Official Cigar Deals Thread

I believe you have to be over $50 or more of qualifying product. Once you hit the magic number of qualifying product, the discount gets applied across the non-qualifying product. I believe Alec Bradly will qualify for the minimum (as do lighters, cutters, Boveda) but other brands like Arturo...

    Boveda Smart Sensor

I do know my SensorPush needs to have the corner with the hole to be positioned so air can circulate into the unit so the sensor can read properly. When I calibrated it with a Boveda calibration kit I got goofy calibration readings until I stood it up vertically in the bag. It then settled the...

    Boveda Smart Sensor

I have a SensorPush but it works similar to the Boveda. You ask, what is the value? While I can’t speak for all users, I don’t sit around watching my SensorPush. I set it and forget it. The value is, it notifies me if something is out of whack. That’s temp and humidity. You set your temp...

Would a cigar stored in the low 60s and high 50s for a week be dried out?

Do not wet a paper towel and use that to bump up the humidity. It will be a mold magnet! Go get a Boveda cigar bag and put your cigars in it. I believe they come at 69% RH. Then get 84% Boveda seasoning packs. Enough for your humidor size. That would be two, 60 gram packs for a 50 stick...

Let's see how you store your cigars.

Then you must have gotten it sealed up well. Good job. It looks like you could begin a cottage business converting antique storage cabinets and chests into humidors.
