• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Today's Smoke (2004-2022 Archive)

just rolled out, hitting up some errands. 1) i forgot just how likable these guys were! 2) anyone ever notice a little gooey gum residue on the cap of the LAT's? not bad, kinda an umame sensation, like a pastry filled with savory? or maybe i just need to roll home and catch dinner. o)

    Pipe Break In.

the only "rules" i have seen that carry commonality are smoke slow, smoke dry, and smoke to the heel whenever possible. also, in fairness, i haven't entirely "mastered" any of my pipes so far, i smoke too carefully. but, dammit, i'm enjoying the journey! o)

    Today's Smoke (2004-2022 Archive)

had a day(ish) of new stuff yesterday. a palina MrSam corona, damn well made but didn't hit my "spot" for a $12 stick, and a george rico american puro corona, which is easily the best "fire cured" stick, to my palate, if a bit two dimensional. mind you, my first of each, and i will try them...

    What's in your bowl today

yeah, froggy and all his ilk are referred to as "crossover" blends as they are lat-based english, BUT blended down with cav, and sometimes flavorings or additives. froggy is very soft on it. if you want a MUCH wetter and more forward "crossover", try JFH shortcut to mushrooms. you want less...

Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake - PToM, June 2014 (Pipe Tobacco of the Month)

i am down with most pipe culture, but i absolutely CANNOT get behind the word "snork". it just takes me back to that horrid smurfs rip-off/clone. retrohale is much more dignified.

cob full of LNF on the way out of work today: (trying a first person shot, for all the pipe curious) fifth bowl for the review, this time fold-n-stuff. for whatever reason, this cob, just this one, is trying to burn out on me. i just have it in mind to either wrestle it into submission of...

Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake - PToM, June 2014 (Pipe Tobacco of the Month)

i have a few 16oz full of the stuff, but it was for convenience. i kinda regret that, in retrospect, but it won't harm anything, and i'm not going to hate on having to burn this in a steady rotation.

Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake - PToM, June 2014 (Pipe Tobacco of the Month)

use the smallest jar you can, going for longterm. you open less actual tobacco each time you crack a jar, and the rest stays aging. you should be able to lay an 8oz jar on it's side, stack flakes in, and close it comfortably.

Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake - PToM, June 2014 (Pipe Tobacco of the Month)

i am NOT letting another month pass, but haven't the time for a full review or pix. short short: sweetness and "barn" in the jar, fairly ready to go moisture-wise, very pretty flakes. common thread is a bright acidy note combined with some caramalized sweetness, all from the virginias...

    Today's Smoke (2004-2022 Archive)

yesterday, was able to burn a couple few: these don't always work for me, mostly my mood, but this one hit me well! with thanks! if you CAN'T read that smudged mess, this was a CyB TAA lance from yodismatt (lotto, 8/13): burned it down to under a quarter inch, and good to the last drop...
