BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

i've said it before, MAF isn't a shut out goalie. He makes the saves that need to be made when they need be made. He's proved him self last year and almost they year before. he's money when you need him, I wouldn't want another net minder for the pens.
Yeah, he's made some amazing saves in some clutch moments, but if it weren't for their high-powered offense, they wouldn't be nearly as good. Shut-down goalies always worry me come play off time. They can just take over a series. re: caps Vs. habs 2010.
that's like saying if it wasn't for insert player here, the insert team here would be rubbish. no one man can win a series. goalies get hot, hot goalies don't win cups. I'll take constancy vs streaking
Really? Hot goalies don't win cups? I may be wrong, but this sums up my opinion.
Hockey, unlike any other team sport, can be (practically) won by one outstanding player (the goalie, duh). How else do you explain what happened to the caps in the previous series?
After doing a little research, I found this article, which attempts to disprove my theory.

so, I'm willing to admit that I might be wrong about my previous theory, and the "hot goalie" theory hasn't proven true in at least the last 3 or 4 cups.
What are your thoughts on this?
Oh, and I wouldn't consider Flower to be a consistant goalie, but obviously (based on my previous assumption) I don't know a lot.
one series does not a cup win. yes the habs beat the caps, even with Hulak standing on his head they still had to beat jesus h. varlomov. who was, if you remember the hot goalie coming into the pens series last year and we all know how that worked out for them. Goalies get hot no doubt, hot goalies don't win cups and exceptions to the rule don't disprove them. Ovi, Hulak, Valomov (i'm really not picking on the caps here, just who is coming up off the top of my head), Hossa, ect ect....one man doesn't make the series. Hulak is in the zone right now, but this too shall pass.

You just convinced me that goalies don't win cups, Now you're using cup statistics to prove consistency in a goalie. I don't get it.
Oh, and Flower has the worst save % left in the playoffs. The only one worse was Leclaire. Here's hoping Flower maintains his last game's "consistency", and the Pens bring home another cup!

I said "hot goalies" don't win cups, I also said one man cannot win a cup, and I've also said he isn't a shut down goalie. Hot goalies can go cold as easy as they went hot. MAF has been consistent for 3 years, he's stoned more people then cheech and chong, he won last year and almost won the year before. I don't care about save percentage, I don't care about any other stat then wins and cup wins.
Some guys show up in big games, sid, mario, Gretzky, adbledator, filpila, jospeh, kane. others disappear, hossa, ovi, varlomov to a degree...ponakrofski, I don't care the position a guy plays, one player doesn't make a team, one player doesn't win the series. Robberts came up big last year for the pens, no one wanted him after the seasons over. People who don't know football blame the qb, people who don't know hockey blame the goalie
after having a surgical procedure to repair a torn tendon on his foot stall is a game time decision for tonight's game
....you know I was going to come in say good play to the habs that puck in the net by letang was a killer and go about my day...however now not so much. Gill has been all over crosby this whole series...no calls there...lots of stuff doesn't get called in a series learn to deal with it.
