I know a lot of you true aficionados have fancy machines and nice shinny French Presses, but this $25 plastic press came in the mail today and brewed the best cup of coffee I have ever had. I live in the most famous coffee city in the country and drink coffee everyday, but now I don't think I will make it any other way. I usually just do American drip, but 2 cups of straight espresso and I am feeling nice and awake after a long shift. Highly recommend this machine to anybody trying to get more into the java hobby. I made some with two different types of beans from those bags a member here throws around like grenades, and both were phenomenal. Off to make cup 3, hope you coffee fiends are having a great brew today as well.

aero makes a damn decent cup. still think a pour over method is best for clarity in a cup, especially when tasting/ evaluating, and french press wins for the texture (yum! viscous!). will add, even though this has a paper filter, the aero still gives a solid mouth feel from the cup, you still get the texture from the coffee.

glad you enjoy it, man, and yes, kev roasts up some mean s#it that deserves to be paid attention to. o)

I also love my aeropress, I use it for my daily coffee before work and use my recently acquired french press on the weekends

BTW, you can get a metal filter for the aeropress if you are concerned about the paper filter absorbing the oils.

I love the aeropress as well.. But my current favorite way of making coffee is the coava metal filter in a chemex......with coava coffee. What can I say I am a coava whore. And Seattle being the most famous coffee city? I thought my city was? :) Guys with Java in their name? your opinions?

A Coava Kone used with a Chemex is one of, if not THE, best way to make a pourover cup of coffee, IMO.

Very true. Like most everything else in life, you get what you pay for though. Yes, Coava is a great little boutique roaster that sources some of the best green coffee on the planet. I've never met Matt Higgins, but his reputation in the industry precedes him.

I love my AeroPress. Definitely not espresso, but a very good cup of coffee. What'd you brew up?
Had a tiny bit of this left over so I finished it off this morning. Looks like a trip to Stumptown is in order ASAP to stock back up on beans. Any recommendations from people who have used them for beans?

Anything & everything. :)

Seriously, Stumptown is also one of the best there is. May want to try something from Central America (more of a classic, "crowd pleasing" type of cup) and maybe something from Ethiopia and/or Sumatra too. Try to get a Wet Processed & a Dry Processed coffee so you can taste how processing impacts cup flavors (drastically, in the case of the DP Ethiopian I sent you). Gotta try a wide variety to find out what suits your personal tastes....

You can get a similar cup for less than half the price with this pair (of course, you'd still need a hot water kettle too):

The aeropress is definitely on my "buy" list, but it will be hard to pry the French press out of my hand.

That's what my keurig is used for these days :)
At least tell use you are not using Folgers pods :stretchgr
LOL, the keurig only heats up a measured cup of water (albeit, probably not as hot as it should be, but it works for me so far), its the aero press or french press with freshly ground beans after that. Currently I am drinking these beans http://www.paradiseroasters.com/ethiopia-yirgacheffe-kochere-micro-lot/
