After the Betamax fiasco they were not about to lose this one.
Considering they lost most battles since betamax... I am surprised sony is still in business :)

Anyone remember minidiscs? Or how about the MemoryStick ? Etc...Etc....

I would have much rather seen hitachi win this one, but they slacked on the marketing and stuff, Sony played this one smarter, so they one.

Shame it is.

my buddy bought a mini disk player in highschool for like $400 and thre months later it was obsolete. It was pretty cool. He could record hours of radio and cut outth commercials and leave himself with an IPOD like library.

Yep, even the porn industry wanted HD, but I think they will have to switch too...

This makes me feel so much better having bought a PS3 now. Whew! Let the blu-ray FLOW. I can't wait to get my planet earth set in that is going to be like crack for me. I loved it while it was aired on Discovery HD Theater.

Planet Earth is so good, I can't even imagine how beautiful it would be on Blu-Ray or HD.

I knew it was going to go this way, that's another reason I bought the PS3. Blu-Ray was winning before this, and this only makes it worse for HD-DVD. I really could care less which one wins, I just want only ONE format.

Turn the lights out...this one seems to be over.

If I had known this in November, I would have went with the PS3 instead of the xbox360 and patiently waited for the game selection to improve on the PS3.

Yeah I read up heavily on who would be projected to win this battle before going out and getting the PS3. I am defintely glad that Blu Ray is winning like they had projected them to.

Sony is ont of those companies that does not like to play well with others (like apple).
they have to be the ones to start format wars all the time.
When everyone did compact flash and sd they did memory stick
when everyone did mp3 they diid minidisc
when everone wanted HD, they did blu ray
Sony has done great things...walkman..discman...etc....but they are to egotistical.

That's business though guys. They wouldn't have pursued those avenues if they didn't see a potential big profit. Consumers like an easy choice and having just 1 format will be pretty easy.
