  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Ok After seeing a recent introduction and one of his hobbies listed as Beer Pong I have a question/ Statement. The name Beer Pong has been synonimized (sp) with Beirut. They are two different games and the new generation must have gotten drunk and not listened during rush week thier freshman year.

Beer Pong:

is played on a Ping Pong Table, with padles, just like ping pong. 2-4 people play with 1 "red cup" of beer for each player. The cup starts half way between the net and the back edge of the table. If an opposing player hits the cup, you must take a drink. If the ball goes in the cup, you must finish the beer and pour another. Each time you drink you move the cup back one "sweat ring" on the table. The first side to move thier cups off the table loses, and is drunk.

Beirut:

Is played on a much smaller table usually 24 inches wide by 6-7 feet long. At each end a triangle of "red cups" are possitioned using either 6 or 10 cups. You then throw a ping pong ball at the cups. If it goes in a cup, you drink the beer in it, and the cup is removed from the table. This game is much easier and ensures all parties get drunk. it can ba played any where that would allow you to place two triangles of cups roughtly 6-7 feet apart. Also it can be played indorrs or out doors.

So do you play Beer Pong or Beirut? Both games hold a dear place in my heart, but I can not stand hearing that Beer Pong has lost it's individuality because a bunch of drunk freshmen don't listen. Just because you are using a ping pong ball does not mean you are playing Beer Pong. Any way, just saying.

That is not true.

It really matters on which part of the country you live in. Same argument as Soda vs. Pop.

Yeah, I can see how location and local culture will have something to do with it, but there was ping pong before there was Beer Pong. And Beer pong "my way" before there was Beer Pong/ Beirut, the throwing way. No matter what you call it there are 2 games and should have different names. In my office almost everyone ovewr 30 would calls it beruit , but some of the younger guys argue that they play beer pong, when they throw the balls.

I'll play either way as long as we use decent beer, but the wrong name irks me for some reason. It just seems obvious that you need to play Beer Pong on a Ping Pong table with Padles.

this is a sweet thread first of all but the differences between beruit and beer pong are different than the ones you have listed, at least at school here in Maryland.

Beer Pong- 6-8 foot table, 6 cup rack is standard although u can play 6,10,15,21,28,36,45,55.....# re-racks proportional to the quantity of cups that you start with, 1 beer per 3 cups, teams shoot in turn, two balls, two teams for a total of 4 people, then you have your standard rules like roll backs (both members on the same team make consecutive shots) bounce shots mean you pull two cups, naked laps around buildings for shut outs (when one team makes all six cups before the other team makes any) and so on and so forth depending on where you play.

Beruit- 8-10 foot table, ONLY 10 cup racks, three balls, RAPID FIRE shooting, no bounces

We call the paddle game PONG and it is very uncommon because the table is so large, to large to fit in most dorms, apartments, and houses during a party = )

OK as long as the true game is recognized.:fencing:

This seems to be a good site if looking for differences in rules played across the country. http://www.beerpong.com/

Either way we're getting drunk, so let's play.

As a college student I have yearned to master the game I call Beiruit! I CANNOT stand when people call Beiruit Beer Pong. They are clearly 2 different games. I am from Massachusetts and everyone calls it Beiruit. It is usually the annoying New Yorker who will insist that it is Beer Pong.
My new best friend!!!! I'm with you 100%

Haha yea well like 80% of our school are either Jews from New York/Long Island/Jersey or from Philly who also call it Beer Pong.

You go to UM College Park?
What does them being Jewish have to do with anything?

I have seen that...We look at College Humor Everyday and this and your intro is what sparked me to start this thread. If we look at the population that responded to the CollegeHumor Poll most are recent college students, and have adopted the bastardized version of Beer Pong. I agree there need to be 2 games. One that can be played in a drom room, and one that requires some real skill and coordination :grinFU: :king:

Oh i see how it is.... that is harsh man
I will agree though, "pong" does take more skill BUT you drink less and it takes a lot longer to play (not good for a big group of people)

Beer pong is the game of true college champs, but even it is just an attempt play the ultimate drinking game......

a game i like to call "Drink the Beer"

The rules for that game cannot be questioned as there is only one rule, grab a beer drink it and then grab another.... repeat until you win (we all know when that is)

Touche...

I guess for large groups Beirut is better. In Beer pong the group has to watch while 4 drunk idiots try to play pingpong with thier beers on the table. can be a good spectator sport as well. We also have sun and warm temps here so out door activities are more common.
