  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I picked them up here, and I had them for almost a year and think they had 1-2 when I got them, so 2-3 years total.
That could be why they were mellowed out for us. There still was some nicotine but not at a level of the fresh power ranger had. The flavors tasted different from the fresh one I had as well. I guess it's a good example on how great OpusXs are to age!

Right off the bat, my olfactories are screaming Liga or UC, but I will go into it with an open mind, there are many different kinds of liga, so even if it is, this will still prove challenging.

Pre light draw:
Raisin covered in a spice, it's hard to tell what spice, maybe nutmeg but a bit more floral.

First third:
Chocolatey espresso with an earthy undertone! And tons of it! This thing is spewing smoke like an 80 year old chain smoker at a bingo game.
Amazingly smooth on the retrohale

Second third:
Pushed more into the coffee and nuts flavor profile, dark chocolate can still be tasted, although not nearly as much as the first third. A taste of cedar comes and goes all throughout the cigar thus far. Very little pepper has showed itself, which would make me shy away from calling it a JD/UF4. So far it's leaning into the Undercrown profile.

Final third:
The flavors I'm picking up are a conglomerate of all the previously mentioned, definitely a cluster ****, but an enjoyable one. A bit hard to pick out a descriptive word for the intense flavors I'm getting. The nicotine is amping up. Definitely glad I chose this for my after lunch cigar. Its not in the overkill side of the nic level yet, it's just stronger than the past few cigars I have smoked.

Final:
Amazing cigar! Pretty sure I have had this one before. Ash was super tight and white. As I said before, the thing had ridiculous amounts of ambient smoke. The cigar really hit the spot for me. Lately I have been shying away from peppery cigars and have really been craving sweeter/ creamy smokes, this and cigar D really hit it off with me. I ended up busting out the nubbing tool!

My guess
Undercrown Toro

Lets hope im closer this time...

Sorry for the delay.... And I apologize in advance for this review

Cigar C

Appearance: Just from the looks and feel of the stick I'm already 95% sure its Liga but I couldnt determine whether it was a 52 or a No.9

Pre Light: Little bit of spice, some sweetness, tobacco

1st Third: Smoking like a chimney! Earthy, a small hint of chocolate and another flavor in the background that I cant pinpoint but I'm not too fond of. No bite on the retrohale.

2nd Third: A little bit of mocha and a some spice/pepper still smoking a ton

and heres where it lost me-

That flavor I couldnt pin point in the first third is WAY more prevalent now and its tastes like a freshly painted room smells! As I kept going it kept getting worse. I let it go out, purged an relit and it still was bad... I was smoking this at Federal Cigar in Epping NH and Ian (IPH) laughed at the face I was making while smoking and said something along the lines of "If its that bad put it out! At least you tried haha"

So after maybe making it to the start of the final third I had to put it out...

Sorry to disappoint everyone and especially sorry to Neil as I feel as if I have wasted a cigar he gifted me :-(

Promise Ill do better on the next one haha

As for the guess: Mickey is spot on with Undercrown Toro - after he nudged me in the Drew Estate direction I realized "Hey theres more than two 'Ligas'" haha oh well

Cigar B

Size: 5in x 42rg (I think)
Wrapper: Broad Leaf Maduro (Pennsylvania or Conneticut)
Pigtail and Rough/Closed Foot

Prelight:
Earth, Tobacco, Little bit of leather

First Third:
Initial spiciness/pepper right off the bat
Calms down to a smooth light Chocolate/Coco
Littlecedar
SLIGHT floral undertones here and there

Second Third:
Spice still
Chocolate
Nutiness
Very smooth

Last Third:
Still cedar
Coffee
Chocolate
Maybe a little caramel

Overall: Great little smoke I'd characterize as pretty full bodied but yet smooth, hardly any bite on the retrohale. Good flavors and definitely something I would add to the collection, I'd say box worth depending on the price.

Guess: I could be way off here but Man O War Puro Authentico Maduro Corona

First
spice and leather right off the bat, lots of it! A few more drags reveal a sweet fruit flavor, so far the flavors match the maduro wrapper.

Second third
The spice and leather are still kicking strong, the fruit has calmed down quite a bit and let an earthy flavor share the spotlight with the spice and leather.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1341431988.644210.jpg

Final third
More of the same, earthy leather and spice. Decent cigar, the tobacco doesn't taste super refined, doesn't taste like a budge cigar at all, but it doesn't taste like a $10+ stick either. All of this further supports my final guess.

Misc
The construction and burn were close to top notch. The burn had a few wavy sections, but I never had to correct it
Not a ton of ambient smoke like cigar C (undercrown) but what smoke it did pour out, had an enjoyable cedar smell to it.

Final Guess
Man o War PA Maduro

That was a gimme,
Let's see how you two stack up on cigar A!

This is a great value cigar - yard gar - IMO
It won't knock your sox off, but doesn't disappoint either.

Notes: Dark oily wrapper, GREAT construction, densely packed.
Now im almost positive I know what this is just from the construction/appearance/smell... One or two puffs should confirm. If I am correct, then I am excited!

Prelight: Fairly easy draw, Earthy, a little sweetness

First Third: Espresso, Chocolate, Earthy, small amounts of leather, small amount of spice on the retrohale Burn: A little wavy but nothing to bad (Pretty confident I know this cigar :) )

Second Third: Earthy, Chocolate increases becoming a little bit sweeter, similar to the first 1/3

Last Third: Not much change but still great! A little nutiness with some sweet tobacco taste but chocolate is still prevalent with some spices in there (not spicy though if you get the difference)

Final thoughts: GREAT smoke, a bunch of flavor complexity- I couldnt pick them all out but enjoyed it none the less. It only required a few touch ups and was BILLOWING smoke the whole time- not sure if my pictures captured that.

Guess: Liga Privada No 9 Parejo Oscuro / Toro

Thanks for this whole thing Neil. It was a great experience!

Looks like a liga
Smells like a liga

Pre draw
Dried fruit,

First third
cedar, espresso chocolate and spice show up in the initial light. After a few puffs the spice drops down. the dried fruit taste from the pre light has diminished. A taste of sweet molasses is present. The ambient smoke smells heavily of cedar.

Second third
The nicotine level is fairly strong in the second third, feeling the buzz a bit more than usual. A hay and leather profile became present. The core flavors remain earthy cedar with a faint chocolate undertone. The pepper amped up but only in the retrohale. the ash is very white, but not super tight. It seems to fall off every inch or so.

Final third
Great cigar! The flavors melded together into one potent profile. Leather amped up a bit. I'm picking out chocolate, cedar, leather

Final thoughts
Superb cigar, burn was sharp, flavors were full and distinct and the finish was strong. I would pick up a 5er if the cost was in the $9-11 range

My Guess:
UF-4. Out of the two UF4s I have had and the countless T52s I've smoked, this tasted more like the UF-4s, keep in mind I have yet to have a MF-13 and only 1 LP-9 that I had to put out super early due to something coming up. I would have to say I enjoyed the UC Toro (cigar B) more than I did this one, it had less sweet flavors and a bit too much kick. But as I said earlier, I would still buy again.
