@K Williams not sure. I have some thick walled pipes that are half the weight I a similar Boswell. I guess it could be briar type. ??
I could put a nail through a 2x4 with the ones I have. The chambers on mine are enormous compared to my other more standard production pipes.
I've never held a Boswell pipe but, just by looking at them, they're pretty large, right? Wouldn't take much of an increase in size to increase the weight of them, too.
They come in all sizes. I prefer the pipes that have large bowls. If you click on the pipe, a full size description will be shown, including a photo of the pipe above a ruler.

The tamper is too big for this bowl. It wasn't a matched set. They used a 20ga shell. It would only work for a bowl with a 7/8"+ diameter with no taper. I sent Dan Boswell an e-mail asking him if they are available in 28ga or .410.

Two hours for me, one way that is. Maybe you should drive over to my shack Friday night and ride along, you could help me buy... ER, I mean resist purchasing things, yeah that's it...
