It was a great last full day in Esteli. First up was a tour of Joya De Nicaragua. Have to say I learned so much on this one not only about cigars but also Nicaragua's history.

This box was from the 1970's.

Showing us how combustion works with different leaves

Today we did a quick visit to the school in Communities La Cruz. This is the place they have the dump for Esteli and most of the families work at it.
It's feet or mules/horses in this area for the locals

They have three rooms one is the library

Next is the kitchen/cafeteria

And last the class room. Most days 30 children are using them

The school also teaches farming

What the children have as a play ground

All the children came out for a photo at the end

After the school visit we walked to a few of the homes. It was very wet and muddy so we only saw a small portion of the village
The old school has been turned into a community area

Walking down from the community area into the village

A few homes in the village

On the way out a truck hauling trash from Esteli

Some farming on the way back to Esteli

As Joe says this schools is near the dump , the village in the pic is a small sample of the families that live in LA Cruz . The water system at the school is a battery operated pump system , ie pumping from well to tank, then gravity feed . The food is brought up daily from Esteli , and reheated for the kids by a mother ......
