(from top25cigar)
# Size: 5 1/2 x 52
# Shape: Robusto
# Wrapper: Cameroon
# Filler: Hond., Nic.
# Binder: Nicaragua
# MSRP: $4.40 (I got this in a 8 cigar sampler for about $10 total)

This won't be as detailed as my normal reviews, as I was herfing with some buddies, and just jotted down some notes between conversation and puffs (when I remembered)

It was a very nice looking wrapper. No giant veins or anything out of the ordinary.

It lit up fairly easily and evenly. The draw was relatively firm, but it allowed for lots of dense smoke.

On to taste. This was my first Cameroon, so I didn't have any expectations going into this. Initial tastes were subtle classic tobacco flavor / leather with a nice creamy smoke. Taste lingered on the palate, so I guess that's called "a long finish." Later, the cigar got a bit spicy and maybe a bit floral?

Just about after half way, I noticed a strong tasting "tar / sap / nicotine" build up. I wasn't smoking particularly fast, and any attempt to draw after I noticed that produced a more pungent, harsher smoke.

So all in all, I did like this cigar. Not very expensive, and a good intro to Cammie wrappers.

There are some Toranos that I really, really like (the Exodus series, for example). Unfortunately, I thought the 1916 was dull and lifeless.

If you want to try a good Cammy, pick up a Cuesta Rey Stanford's Cameroon.

Thanks for the review. The 1916 is one of my favorites in the $3-$4 price range and the robusto is the size I like the most. These are delicious as a morning smoke with a hot cup of joe.

it's not a good cigar for later in the day for me, but it's one of the best early morning with coffee cigars on the planet!

This is one of my least favorite Cameroons and I typically love Cameroons. They just don't have that subtle creamy spice like favor that I've found in other Cameroons.

I think these are pretty good in the morning myself. But I also drink coffee all day and this is a coffee cigar. It is a cigar that benefits greatly from a bit of rest.

nice smoke! and i usually have the same problem you did with the "build-up"

ever try purging???
yep, once i first tasted the harshness. I immediately did about a 15 second purge, and wiped off the tar. It helped me slightly, but it was a downward battle from there.

I have noticed that Purging- If I take it right is blowing back throught the cigars - Right? I have done that and I cleans up the taste quite nicely, for a while anyways.

yep, I don't touch them unless they have rested for a min of 6 months. I'm smoking a box now with over a year, and they are fantastic. Fresh, not so good.

That is waht I do. If you hold the lighter to the end while doing that it helps a lot.

Hell, I enjoy them anytime. But most all the ones I buy come from a local shop that has had them for a while. So when I get them they already have some age on them.

Wiped off the tar?

How did you do that?
well i'm calling it tar, could be an incorrect term. but i'm talking about the "tree sap" looking stuff that builds up at the head of the cigar. I pretty much just try to blot it / wipe on a piece of paper (in this case the one i was writing my notes on for the review)

and I also purge while having a lighter lit. I like to see the little flamethrower effect. just gotta make sure not to smoke too soon afterwards or else the smoke is way too hot and you're right back where you started :)

I had one of these last night, and of all the Torano's I've had, this one is by far the best. I detected all the same stuff that Earnold did, but without the tar. It was consistent, and burned nicely.

It actually tasted pretty good, like a cigar should.

The other Torano's I've had (including the Exodus series) all taste like cheap cigarettes to me. They were such a trainwreck, I couldn't quit smoking them thinking that surely they can't be this bad, it's gotta get better. They make me look forward to the Herfdog I've been saving...:grinFU:

Good job on the review Earnold :smokingme
