  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

DPG Blue vs Tatuaje brown?

Just curious how some experienced pepin smokers would describe the difference between the two. I have one blue lancero in the humi, but have never tried either. But I know they are both corojo-wrapped nicaraguan puros with a healthy dose of ligero rolled in el rey de los habanos. Those are the ways in which they are similar, in which ways are they not similar?

The one Blue I had I didn't like...pepper bomb, hurt my mouth actually. Maybe I just got a particularly strong one, since I know many people like them. I have a Blue lancero as well but I'm going to let that puppy sit for a year I think.

I love Tats and the other Pepins I've had, though.

I think the best way would be for you to smoke them and see what YOU think the differences and similarities are. Everyone's palates are different, njstone said he didn't care for the Pepin Blue as it was to peppery, hell, that's what I love about them, and the neat thing is, we're both right.

i would say they are definitely more different than they are the same.

the only thing the same about thme is the construction...both rolled by the same company, which puts out amazing quality. Triple caps, etc.

Tatuaje is blended by Pete Johnson, who, without a doubt, creates his own blends. He has a flavor in mind when he creates a blend and he uses Pepin to put those blends together.

DPGs sticks have a totally different flavor profile.

Like I said, DPG merely supplies the tobacco and rolls the Tatuaje stuff.

Different all together.

I will concede that both are generally med-full bodied and full flavored though.

To me, the Tat brown line has more coffee & chocolate flavors - clearly modeled after a Monte CC.

The Pepin blue is more of a black pepper blast with leather & clove.

They are both great cigars. I have a preference for the Tat Browns if you want to spend a little more. Otherwise, the DPG Blues are still a great smoke.

Wouldn't you like to know?
I smoked a dpg blue lancero I got from Gale last week and was blown away. I don't know why but I think that was the first DPG I hae smoked and have every line in my humi. Made me much more interested to try the rest. Should be done by the end of the week.

is there any size (in the tat brown) that is known to be better than another? i wanna order a 5-pack of these to try out. i know its all subjective to your personal taste, but is there a more respected vitola i should try FIRST?

I like the noellas of Tatuaje. I really like the robusto size in DGP. Also, I fell inlove with the limited edition lancero. I am not sure if the new banded lanceros are the same.

Who would win in a steel cage death match? Tatuaje Or DPG ?

The flavor profile should be very similar throughout the sizes, just try which size you normally like.
