Greatest job on planet earth. Dont know how old you are but here 35 is the cut off for being hired full time. 1 on 2 off. Yeah its a great schedule, great pay and working with some great guys doesn't hurt as well. Had a good fire last week. After 6 years I was able to ladder my 1st building(senior guys are engineers here). Felt great to get dirty again.

Congrats to all you 'new' guys getting on and getting in the Fire Service.

I spent 22 years as a full time, full paid FF in Calif. Worked for several jurisdictions..........Cal. Division of Forestry, City of Montclair, City of Upland. Retired in 2001.

This is a fantastic job. Very rewarding and always interesting and challenging. In my career I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the National Fire Academy twice, spent 3 years as a State Certified Arson Investigator and ultimately ended up back on the floor driving a 100' aerial ladder. A great time was had by all!!!!

I was a volunteer fireman for 4 years before I moved. NY requires firemen to do an 80+ hour training course now instead of fire basic and intermediate. I would join again but I just don't have the time to commit. For all you volunteers now, thank you for helping out!

I hear you on the time. NJ's FF I program is 150 hours. I am taking the night class as I work and it is M T TH 19:30-22:30 for four months.
